I thought you might like to know, DMT, that the door is now back on its hinges. I had a friend visit yesterday and he took some more off the bottom and got loads more of the panel pins out using a pair of pliers. Still a few left and I'll bang those in with a hammer (gently, of course).
Now, all that remains is to plane or file the protruding quadrant and the edges of the door, fill the holes and paint is, and it will look much nicer than it did before.

Not a chance! After all the other stuff, I need to sort out the door furniture - probably get a locking mechanism - one of thoseones that go on the outside of the door - there are holes cut already - although (thinks) there is an extra strip round the door, so the sticky out bit might not reach the doorframe properly. Rats! Oh well, I'll see what's available.

A glass door with a lock?
That reminds me of those little metal cash boxes that have a key so that people can't pick them up and walk off with them.

Do you use a plane to take the bottom off the door?
And how do you keep it steady?
And are you the sort of person who doesn't paint the top and bottom of the door?

I can't paint the bottom of the door now, however I usually paint the top.
Yes, I used an electric plane. I was shown how to put masking tape on the door bottom so that I had a line to follow.
It was kept steady by resting on a stool.
Do you usually paint the top and bottom of doors? If I painted the bottom, I would probably have had to have taken more off it.

I haven't used an electric plane.
I suppose you don't need to paint the bottom of the door, unless you really want to seal the wood. But I always get a bit tetchy when the top is left bare.

I quite agree with you here. I would usually paint the top of the door, if I was painting a door, too.
Virgo, you see.
