Bedding Rolls

Ever wondered how to tie a perfect bedding roll for Guide or Scout Camp? You are not alone. I have compiled instructions from various sources and will be trialling the method this week with 20 novice girl guide campers. If succesful I will of course list the method in my journal.

Now, 20 years ago I might have been able to help you with that. On a trip over to Brownsea Island all our bed rolls ended up in the sea. I wish I could remember quite how that happened, I do remember the boat was a very small and unstable looking thing - anyway I had the extremely smug satisfaction of being the only one of 30 odd to have dry bedding the first night, so I must have done something right!

Ahhh, memories! smiley - smiley

What knots do you use. The last guide manual said a "packers knot", but I cannot find one of those anywhere!

To be honest, it was too long ago to remember smiley - erm I've just done a quick search and found a couple of references to a packers knot - seems to be a pretty basic 'loop in the end of a rope' type of knot - if my fading memory serves, I used to refer to that type of knot as a bowline. I could be completely wrong on this though!
