Change of scenery?

Ku'Reshtin (Bring the beat back!)

So, last week, one of my mates sent a mail saying that he was looking for new staff at the call centre he's working at. Well he's not as much working at the call centre as being the Service Manager for the call centre.

Anywho, he sent this mail saying that he'd have an opening for a team leader position in the near future, and he wanted to know if I (and his old girl friend, who's now my neighbour) knew of anyone that could be interested in the job.

The thing is, though, that the call centre is nowhere near here. IN fact, it's nowhere near anything at all. It's located on the island of Madeira, in the middle of the Atlantic (well, almost anyways) and that would mean that if I applied and got the job I'd need to move out of my flat here, probably just subletting it, and pack up and leave my life here in Scotland behind, much as I left my life in Sweden behind when I moved to Scotland. Only difference is that here I've settled in and I like it here, something I can't say I did when I lived in Sweden.

I'd have to leave (American) football behind, I'd have to leave all the mates I've got because of football, and I'd definitely miss the SRG and all their meet-ups/p*ss-ups.

On the other hand, it'd be a great opportunity to get that change of scenery that I've been looking for, and it looks as if there'll be some pretty good benefits that come with that job as well.

I sent him a mail back saying I'd be interested, and we'll see what he comes back with.

Well, yes. I don't fancy my chances of catching the last train home from Madeira on a Saturday night!

But think of all the wine and cake they give out at the airport. smiley - smiley
I'd say it is definately worth considering, it should be warmer at least.

'Tis funny. When I saw this heading on my space I thought it was someone who knows me starting a convo... I'll explain..

You see, I am about to leave Scotland for a change of scenery.. to work in a call centresmiley - erm.. and I'll be renting out my flat..smiley - ermMy job wont be in Madeira thoughsmiley - wah..

My profound advice is. Take it if it's offered. With your one and only life, you can never pack in too many experiences or different locations. If it's rubbish, you can come back to Scotland, but with a new set of experiences that you wouldn't have had otherwise.

Yeah, I'm going to havea talk with my friend about this tomorow. Been trying to get hold of him on Skype for a while, but he doesn't seem to be online at the same time I am.

From what he said, it'll be a job where the TL would be in a position to create, update and implementprocedures for the desk that's responsible for a telecommunications helpline.
Regular questions about dial-up internet connection, billing, account info and stuff like that, it seems.

Problem was that when I got a reply from him today on how they were going to do the recruitment, they hadn't really decided on that yet. So hopefully, he'll hae a bit more of a reply on that tomorrow.

Of course, I could have called him tonight to have a chat about things, but never got round to it.

Of course, from Wednesday this week until next Friday, I'll be the unofficial standin team leader at my desk at work at Eye Bee Em because the TL that's still there is off on a week's holiday ad the replacement TL hasn't started yet. So to keep things running smoothly, they've given me that job. Mainly cause I've been working at the desk the longest and I know what I'm doing.

Wonät stop me from having a chat with my pal about applying for the job down in Madeira, though, if it's available.

Won't it involve being able to speak... smiley - erm whatever language they speak there? Portuguese?

It's a helpdesk for a Swedish company, which means that the language I need to be able to speak is.. Swedish. And as luck would have it, I'm pretty proficient in speaking Swedish.

Don't you love the modern world. A telephone helpdesk for a Swedish company, in the Sewdish language and staffed by genuine Swedish people, in Madeira. Makes such sense doesn't it. smiley - winkeye

Well, it's like a telephone helpdesk for an American company, in the Sewdish language and staffed by genuine Swedish people, located in Scotland.

As opposed to a telephone helpdesk for a British company, in the English language, located in India and staffed by Indians. smiley - erm

Oh, wait a minute.. I forgot.. ONe of the guys here at work isn't a genuine Swedish guy. He's South African.

So that would make him work for a telephone helpdesk for an American Company, in Swedish, staffed by a South African (amongst others), located in Scotland.
