Off to Ireland

And there's one reason why milady will do a lot of smiling and nodding when we are in Dublin. Here, Newfoundlanders are damned fast talkers, and my daughter is one ofg 'em. Milady can never follow what she says once a real head of steam is on. And from experience, a native Oirish lady is a much FASTER talker!!!
Still and all, it sounds that you had a good time and memorable experience.

"D'ya see that left turn there, right? Well, you ignore that. Yu go three mile up the road and there's a right turn on the top of the hill. You ignore that, too. And then ...."
Westport itself is a lovely town, no? There's something sweet about it, I think.

I didn't get a chance to really look at Westport. It was really heavily congested with traffic. The countryside round there is spectacular though. And the really wierd triangular mountain with the church on top is memorable.

The Reek (a.k.a. Croagh Patrick).
(Not to be confused with The Reeks, which is a range of mountains (a.k.a. Macgillicuddy's Reeks) in Kerry. The Reeks are the highest mountains in Ireland.)
An impressive mountain, alright. I've climbed it. (And the Reeks, too.)

Climbing it looked far too much like exercise to me. 38,000 people had climbed it the previous weekend I was told. To attend a Mass at the top, (sort of like a mass Mass ). I bet the view from the top is wondrous though.

Jeez, with 38,000 people trodding up the thing, did it settle at all? Making it a foot or two shorter?

I've seen the Reek standing out of a sea of mist. It was evening, and I was on top of the Sheefy hills, camping down for the night.
The mist was mainly over the land, obscuring the coastline, and the bay was full of islands, standing out of the water just as the hills stood out of the mist. Quite good, really.
