Starbirth - {Seeker of the Cosmic Lottery Winning Numbers} Started conversation Jul 6, 2001
Morning bright and cold broke like a flower blooming in a fragrant garden. The crisp air scented with the smell of freshly fallen leaves ushered winter in. The waning days of autumn were about to give birth to the 35th winter of my existence.
The sun an orange orb hung low in the ice blue sky radiating more light than heat awakening memories buried deep in me long ago.
It was such a morning 20 years ago that I received a letter from my grandmother that would one day have a profound effect on me. It came in the form of a birthday card, which I found inside my school locker. There was no earth shatteing message attached to the card only a few generic verses written by some paid by the word poet and signed "Love Grandma Rose."
At the time I received the card, it struck me as odd that it would be in my school locker. After all my grandmother had not communicated with me for over five years and then out of the blue I receive a birthday card from her in my school locker. I remember at the time all the questions running through my head the day I found that card. Why after five years of silence would my grandmother send me this card?
Emotions welled in me, questions nagged but being a teenager after a few days my attention was focused elsewhere and eventually the whole incident was lost to time.
Like waking from a dream, pieces of this memory started to come together on a cold autumn day. Welling up from my subconscious, they were brought to the surface as I stood mesmerized by a giant orange orb hanging in the cold autumn sky.
Morning, bright and cold 20 years since I found that birthday card from my grandmother. 25 years since she died.

I saw you online and I came here to tell you I love your name.
I read this and it blew me away.
Thank you so much for bringing tears to my eyes and the well of love I feel for my own dear grandma just rose and filled my heart once again.
Please read the dedication on my page...there used to be an eternal flame there but it disappeared after the takeover.
Thank you again.
And I love your name

I know, but couldn't snippets of prose be used to start it's own forum, I think Starbirth's post would be a great inaugural bit, should he agree, and a set the bar high for others to aspire to

Lovely bit of prose, Starbirth... I'm curious, have you ever tried to expand and write an entire story with all those sensory details? Because that would be quite a treasure...

Aaron please feel free to use the story for starting some type of forum thank you for judging it worthy.
Amy good to hear from you. {how was the beach?} Though I have done some writting over the years it has been very limited and I have no formal training. I tend to lean towards artistic endeavers {drawing, painting, musical instruments, writing} when time allows. However between raising a family, running a company and posting on h2g2 I have little free time.

Well, I can sypathize with the free time issue to some degree, I will see what the PTB have to say about a forum for posts such as these. . .a little time is needed however. . .I would like to see your contribution to this guide to be one in which your talents surely dictate. . as they have in this "message"
Key: Complain about this post
