Peckish Posted Aug 17, 2003
Hello Mystruner,
Not sure why I'm writing to you....let's see what happens...as I'm somewhat gunshy of the responses of religious types around here...
So , I found the title of your note fairly provocative as I have no time at all for this current papal incumbent...it is not too strong to say that I despise him...he would , admitably to my interpretation, be a complete anathema to christ and christs' teachings, anyway it lead me to check what you have written...
Briefly looking at the posts that you have made I notice that there is no exhortation of your fellows, your faith ,your leader ,your god etc... for prayer or aid to bring satan/the devil/.. back into the fold. Now this is not a jest or a cheap shot. I just wonder why there is not a concerted effort by those of you that follow this particular belief, to this end .It seems to me that it is a logical(if not relgious) imperative to save /bring back to the fold/rehabilitate/this being and to exhort your god to have this come about.
From all the posts I have read thee is no such concerted effort ,there is only continual damnation. With respect ,surely the rehabilitation of this being should be very high on any believers agenda ,especially as by definition this would lessen the many and varied temptations/destructive choices /chaos/ ..that the world is now faced with.
Now from even a cursory glance at some of my posts you will be able to see that I do not share belief systems ..I have no faith in your 'it'..but I do have an interest in why you do .
Your thoughts...?

Mystrunner Posted Aug 18, 2003
Do you mean to ask why I discourage the emphasis on Hell and Satan? I'm sorry, it's a bit late here, and I don't think I'm reading you all that clearly...
Oh, why we don't pray for Satan? Let me see... for one thing, according to the Bible, he hates God. He does not want forgiveness. As in Milton's 'Paradise Lost,' "'tis better to rule in Hell then serve in Heaven," or something like that.
My concern for Satan's well-being is none. I would rather see that you and yours make it to the pearly gates, and thwart Satan at his goal.

Peckish Posted Aug 18, 2003
Sorry I was probably a bit obtuse....yes why is there no prayer for satan?
To have him rehabilitated ,to have him turned around and loving your god would surely thwart him in the best possible way.It would also eliminate all the temptations that he puts in the way of humanity .
It would be treating the disease at the root/source not just battling the symptoms.
Surely the power of 2000 years of prayer to your god would be a powerful tool for this to happen.
Is there such a program of concerted effort being undertaken, and if not why not?
If, as you say, that he does not want to be saved, well surely this is no impediment to people praying for a change, or for him to be saved.Aren't non believers prayed for nearly every day?
your thoughts? ...

You've got a point, I think. We could hope.
I just don't think anyone wants to. He hates us. More than anything, save God... I don't think he has love anymore. Who knows. Some part of me rebels at praying for him. He created a rebellion against God, tried to overthrow Him, and alltogether, is probably likly to do it again in an instant.
But there is always hope. Who knows? But I wouldn't hold my breath over it...

"You've got a point, I think. We could hope."......Hmm ,my point is that I think christians should do more than this, their belief would appear to dictate it .
Look it's not my belief ,so I should not judge but there are still the nagging questions...
-- isn't your god the final arbeter of whether a being is to be saved ?
-- isn't the power of prayer meant to harness your god's intervention for a soul? (probably fuddled up the idea here)
-- as you say in the main thread isn't that why you have missionaries? ie,where are satans christian missionaries praying for his redemption?
"We refuse salvation like a drowning man would refuse aid of someone on the shore, simply because he's on the shore, and the drowning man is not." --- Are you not like this illustration refusing aid because of what satan did to your god?

Mystrunner Posted Aug 19, 2003
I'll see if I can answer a bit of this...
>>isn't your god the final arbeter of whether a being is to be saved ?<<
It is up to the person. God lets us do what we will, and does not interfere. He simply showed us what we need to do.
>>isn't the power of prayer meant to harness your god's intervention for a soul? (probably fuddled up the idea here)<<
Well, to put it honestly, prayer has no power. Prayer is man-made, and man is not God. Prayer is asking God to interceed in events.
>> as you say in the main thread isn't that why you have missionaries? ie,where are satans christian missionaries praying for his redemption?<<
Well, nowhere, really. I doubt the idea would catch on... most Christians would shut their minds to the idea. And with the example, I think you're right.

Sad really the, cause will remain while treatment of the symptoms is all that is left.....I think your god would be dissappointed..still this may give cause for hope;from an article in one of our papers

For these three, kindness begins in the hearts of innocents

It may sound improbably idealistic in today's world, but the Christian, Muslim and Jew who went together to a Sydney school want not only to combat prejudice but to inspire children to change the world through acts of kindness.
The girls and boys from years 5 and 6 at Epping Public School are happy to help, hoping that from their tiny acorn a mighty oak will grow.
Now 100 schools want the ecumenical team to visit. Organisers have the approval of the NSW Education Department.
The Epping children come from 35 different language groups. Sixty-three per cent are from non-English-speaking backgrounds. The 100 children of years 5 and 6 come from 23 different countries.
They set out to find 1000 acts of kindness, such as sharing lunch with someone new or greeting a stranger with a smile, to demonstrate how people of different faiths can work and live together.
Their Christian, Muslim and Jewish visitors thought that if they could find 1000 acts of kindness at Epping, they could reach 1 million throughout NSW.
The Christian, Muslim and Jew have already visited 25 schools in what organisers call the Goodness and Kindness Campaign. The campaign began at Chabad House, part of a worldwide Jewish education movement.
"We might disagree in many areas but we want to focus on where we agree," said the project director, Rabbi Nochum Schapiro.
Kuranda Seyit, born in Turkey and from the Forum on Australia's Islamic Relations, cautioned against stereotyping Muslim people, pointing out that Allah was another word for God and that Islam came from the Arabic word for peace.
Rabbi Zalman Kastel, born in New York, said that everyone in the room was Australian. He put the children through hula hoops to show that they could improve whatever they undertook - the first exercise took two minutes 45 seconds, the second just two minutes. If everyone tried, he suggested, the world could be a better place.
One boy told Ray Corbin, a lay Catholic who founded Berowra Community Theatre, that King Henry VIII was head of the Anglican Church, but most children knew that Christians believed in one God, just like Muslims and Jews.
"It starts with kids but it won't end there," Rabbi Schapiro said.

Yes, it is hopeful. Someday, maybe everywhere can be like that. Peace.

Peace to you as well.Though I cannot resist one more question ...you say that your parents have dismantled your computer to stop you from participating on this site.Yet you continue to do so from your english class.
If I may equate this with one of your posts....Presumably your parents did so because they feared for you, perhaps feared for your soul, and thus for your life (immortal)? Do you now,by continuing to log on, re-enact the original sin scenario and if so are all your descendents condemned by your actions.
I say this with the gentlness of a nudge in the ribs, and perhaps I draw a fairly long bow.If it offends please ignore it and accept my apologies.

Nah, actually it was because they were sick of having the phone line tied up all the time.
Turns out that when I got back from class, they had forgotten all about it. And I'm not going to remind them . I've gotten back permission for net use, and all is well...
If you ever want to chat, I'm always open!

Heh... I wish I could. I say, "But it's cheaper!"
And they say:
"We don't need it!"
And I offer to pay for it, and they say argument one again! Arrg!

From my experience of you, Peckish, I theorise that you are just being provocative, but maybe you know that Origen (185-254 AD) spoke about the very 'restoration' you denigrate us for not praying for!

Ah, Blinky, the pot calls the kettle black...
A pity, when I saw this threqd revived, I thought it was someone saying something sensible, then I saw it was you...
Ever consider that the thread died a natural death? If you followed my "unfriendly opinion" back to what I was replying to, you'd see its relevance to oh, many dots back! Long before you ever joined h2g2 and helped make it the hostile place it is today.

Obviously you are talking about the hostility between:
you and I
You and Hoo
You and member
YOU and peckish
Y O U and montana redhead
Youa as Adele,Della or any other of your silly names and people like potholer, starbirth.....the list goes on and on.
Who is the common factor in ALL of those hostilities?

<<

That's about the size of it! If you paid attention to anything that goes on outside your own little issues, you'd know that aside from arguing about the war in Iraq, I like Starbirth, and always have! Montana also... In fact, the last time I had contact with Starbirth, it was to ask after his health because he had had recent surgery. (End of 2003, that's how long since I have had any contact with him.
As for Potholder, no probs! He and I argued on one issue, which didn't spill over into generalised hostility (AFAIK). If he comes along and says otherwise, I shall be both surprised and disappointed, but in the mean time, take your issues away from Mystrunner's journal, he doesn't deserve to have it cluttered up with this rubbish.

So its ok for you to have a pop at Peckish, but I raise an issue you want me to go away
You never mentioned generalised hostilities did you?
You have disagreed with all of those people on conversation threads and on their PSs. I know Ive seen the posts.
Furthermore though we disagree alot it is about issues i have no ill wish towards you I wish you no harm at all and for example would never "seriously" threaten to kill you (twice).
