Again, my school has made another desperate attempt to censor hootoo. Obviously, they failed, as I am still on (I love knowing the right things), but they wound up restricting all of BBC.co.uk!
Buncha ignorant nutsos.

Were they narked about things that were said here during the war or is it because it's more fun than school or because anything British is Evil
*Sigh*
Mystrunner Posted Apr 28, 2003
Yeah, or at least they don't like us hearing about RL... they're pretty keen on that.

They blocked bbc.co.uk? What the heck! They;re the only newssource left that doesn't blatantly lie to people!

Oh I don't know, I think all media is slightly biased. During the war I watched the BBC and CNN, during the 'friendly fire' incidents the British correspondants mentioned the fact the Americans were responsible in nearly every sentance and the American jounalist's didn't mention the British in Basra at all.

Mystrunner Posted Apr 29, 2003
Well, it's good as they go. It just ticks me off that our school is so hell bent on keeping students away from the news... really, REALLY TICKS ME OFF!
That's as close to real anger I've been in a while...

Reefgirl (Brunel Baby) Posted Apr 29, 2003
Have they given any explaination as to why they've done it

Euan - † - Getting a new laser to play with - woohoo Posted Apr 29, 2003
When a government-run (I assume) establishment begins censoring the news, you have to wonder...
Is there not something in US law that prohibits them from restricting this?
*Sigh*
Reefgirl (Brunel Baby) Posted Apr 29, 2003
Isn't that the 1st Amendment, something about freedom of the press and speech and protesting in public
Isn't fighting for the freedom of the Iraqi people and censoring the press kind of double standards
*Sigh*
Aries (ACE + Badger) Posted Apr 29, 2003
Myst stop sighing, my lot have just failed for about the 34th time this year to censor the BBC.
*Sigh*
Mystrunner Posted Apr 29, 2003
Yeah. They uncencored it today. Again.
Buncha idiots. Well, I don't know what their objections are, and I doubt they'll give them.

I asked our admin guy, he's pretty cool but he said he was told to do it, his boss didn't even give him a reason.

Aries maybe it's because you spend too much time on H2 and not enough time working, I don't have that problem I have no internet access at work I can't even use my laptop because I have to go through a Military Switchboard to get a phoneline

I do work, I'm able to multi-task myself, to much amazement from the bog-eyed friend that is peering over my shoulder as I type this.

Rivkeh Yankee-Shoes... bashing about the BoE again Posted Apr 29, 2003
Well... schools here in America are funny about what they will and will not censor... I think maybe they misunderstood hootoo's purpose, hey Myst?

Rivkeh Yankee-Shoes... bashing about the BoE again Posted May 1, 2003
I'm sure that's very true, Aries.
A different situation: I work at a boarding school, and our new internet parental controls will automatically censor a breast cancer site, but pro anorexia and suicide sites slip through... it's funny to me how those things are programmed!
