But doesn't that make you feel kind of bad, Gnomon? It makes me feel like the community has been written off somehow as something no longer deemed important.

I may be imagining it.
But I'm tired of this community anyway, as anyone who reads my journals would know.

Have you seen my new weblog, Gnomon? Noggin and I started these blogs last week to use instead of 'journal entries' here as we feel we have much more freedom. If you're interested, pop by and say hello.

I'm starting a journal too -- http://taliesin.wordpress.com/
Not much there yet
How about if we start linking our journals?
I would really hate to lose touch with friends

If you go to Nog's and my pages and click on 'add to blogroll' we will end up on your blogroll list automatically.

If all you want to do is keep a journal, why do it outside of h2g2?

More editorial control.
For example, I can add images, quote long passages or song lyrics, link to wherever I choose, modify content, use foreign languages, delete annoying comments, and use whatever words I wish to use, and retain at least the illusion of ownership.
I have also lately repeatedly experienced difficulty logging on to hootoo in the evening, (for me), which is becoming tiresome.
Hootoo is, or at least for me should be, a place to write short articles, although I have sadly grown out of the habit due to being far too busy with RL concerns and w*rk
I hope to have some more free time later this summer, during which I may be able to once more contribute to the Guide

From my limited experience of these things, the big downside of blog journals is that nobody comments on them. There's not as much of a community feel about them.
Unless you include spammers, of course.

It's not actually legal to quote song lyrics, Taliesin, even on a blog site that "allows" it.

taliesin Posted May 10, 2006
I believe I said, 'long passages of song lyrics'
My intent is not to violate copyright by posting entire songs written by others without their permission, but I may use passages to illustrate a point, or within the context of a critique, etc.
I may, however, at times post songs, poetry and other creative works written by myself, or, as I say, with permission, by others.
TPTB usually err on the side of caution verging on paranoia in this, and a few other areas, as I'm sure you're aware.
In the past, I have been unjustly accused of plagiarism, and although the matter was resolved satisfactorily it did leave something of a sour taste, and I have felt a bit claustrophobic ever since.

Woodpigeon, for community I'll continue with hootoo. I'm active in some of the very good discussions here, and regularly engage in traditional hootoo trivial banter.
When I am able to log on, that is
Web journal comments are not that important to me, and I 'haf vays' of dealing with spammers
Augh. Apologies for the thread hijack, Az

Tal, I'm assuming you know you're on Azara's PS and not mine?
It's just that sometimes people mix us up.
