h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well folks, here I am again, ready to rant on about nothing important. I have made an enormous discovery today. I think that this discovery, with a bit of research and investigation could possibly be the most significant finding since the internal combustion engine. Are you ready? if you're standing, you might want to sit down. Here it is. People who talk on cell phone while driving are complete and total a***s. Aren't you just shocked to hear this revalation? Wait a minute, are you tewlling me that you already know this? Are you telling me that this is nothing new? O.K. then, please tell me why people continue to drive thier cars and talk on cell phones at the same time. Has nobody eplained to these people that what they are in is a car and not a phone booth? Has noone explained to these people that by talking on the cell phone and driving they are 2 times more likely to cause an accident than a drunk driver. People, if you must have cell phone with you when you're in the car, and thier is no way the call can wait, pull off the G*d D****d road. There are other people on the road who would like to get to their destination alive despite your best efforts to the contrary.

I have just two words on this subject:- Hands free.

Nope, I tried to resist but ranting is obviously catching..of course, you're quite right, but it's not just using phones whilest driving, is it? Why DO people drink, and then drive? why DO they use mobiles? Why are people so damn stupid, they might as well pick up a gun, stand in a busy shopping centre, close their eyes and shoot. (Of course, some people do that, too...) A close friend of mine died six years ago when he was hit by a car whilst crossing the road on a zebra crossing. The woman driving was around five times over the limit. She served 6 months in prison. It makes me so, so angry that people are so STUPID!!!!!

You're absolutely right my dear, ranting is catching. I've found it to be rather contagious. But take heart, as long as people rant, they are thinking for themselves. And thinking for ourselves can never be a bad thing. As to your friend, there are no words to express either my sorrow for your loss or the absolute contempt that I have for any "justice" system that would let a killer out of jail after only 6 months. I will take heart in knowing that current laws are being addapted to included talking on the cell phone while driving to be a punishable offense, if someone is hurt or not. While the politicians are working on that one, maybe they should consider similar punishments for people reading while driving or applying makeup. No offense to the ladies on the makeup thing, but looking in the mirror while applying lipstick and attempting to drive at the same time is dangerous and just plain dumb. But that is a topic for a future rant.

Indeed! I could rant for hours on this topic, but since you and I seem to be of the same mind I shall save it for someone who isn't...
...another driving offense some ladies seem unfortunately prone to is wearing high-heels (and probably some men, you never know!)whilst driving- consider the consequences when the heel gets stuck under the accelerator pedal!!
No, I will never understand the absolute stupidity some people seem bent on displaying, and as for the justice system...

Maybe we should give these people a little credit. It seems to that they are bound and determined to take themselves out of the gene-pool. If this is the case, I aplaud their will and determination. My only gripe about then would be, why can't they do it somewhere other than on the road. At least then they would be less likely to cause an colateral damage, and less innocents would be harmed.
