If anyone reads this (scouts, aces, hitchhikers?) please respond if you can.
Question:
In the book Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson there's a piece of software with a name something like The World, or Planet Earth, or similar. You know the one I mean...it displays any geographic-based information on a zoom-able globe. The question is, does anyone know of such a thing in existence right now? It would be a marvelous interface, especially in the context of H2G2. Surely enough techies have read the book that at least someone's had a decent go at making one.
Anyone know anything about this subject?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
