I just had my first experience in bribing policemen.
We were sitting at a lake near the campus at 11:30 pm when they came (btw. we didn't even have alcohol with us). In the end we had to pay Rs 400 otherwise they would have taken us to jail and made up a case, preferably something like the two others trying to rape me or offence against the anti-terrorist act, LTT activity or whatever. In reality it was all just about how much we would pay, of course. Even if they wouldn't be successful in front of a court, the trouble that all would cause would be so big, that we just had to pay and they knew that.

Unfortunately not. But since I became a professional in avoiding anybody in uniforms!!! And of course I always give wrong names, nationalities and occupations to them.

Well, one learns...and always carry enough money in case you have to bribe someone! Or pretend to be really slow and stupid "how much customs would you like to pay?" "Nothing?" In the end the customs officer really believed that we just didn't get his little hints and let us pass without paying.

Of course this only works if you aren't decorated with jewelry, Rolex watches and Mercedes Benz car keys

Ooops! Did I just say something wrong now? I couldn't have known you're decorated with jewelry etc, could I?

You know on the Indian wedding market jewellery is very important - so if you can't wear ear-rings for example (like myself ) that's almost a tragedy...

...you know if it gets really "dangerous", you can always bribe an astrologer to write you a horoscope that doesn't fit the one of your potential husband...so after all bribing is not always bad

aha ...why do I have that strange feeling that someone might take this idea and maybe start a business to *rescue* desperate girls who don't want to get married...

Er, 'rescue'? Although I like the idea of such a business , rescueing is the business of saving people from a hazard, not putting them *into* it. Ummh, I'm just giving away my position

let me try to put it this way:
In the old days, people used to duel each other with swords or pistols. These days, the weapons of choice sometimes are 'the rings' . Not that I had ever partaken in such duelling but I've been witnessing some
