Citizen Sweeps

I was surprised today to find that I had gotten quite a positive responce to my Rhino party entry.
It wasn't so much that the responce was positive as much as the surprise at the ammount of feedback I'd received.

With the helpful comments and suggestions in mind (and a reminder of sub-editing guidelines) I edited the artical, added in some things, nicked some smaller bits. I quite hope this entry makes it into the edited guide, as I'm quite proud of it and rather enjoy the topic, not to mention there were no other entries on it in the guide. Surprising, I know.

So with this ambition in mind, I set about to find exactly how things are done around here. I still find the rules and guidelines here suprisingly technical. I suspect that I shall fully understand with time, but for now, I am occasionally perplexed.

I was reading "What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?" and I noticed something strange-quite a bit of editing goes into motion for edited guide entries. Of course, the first tip-off should have been that it is called the edited guide, and not the unedited guide.

The reason I found this so surprising, however, was because of Douglas Adam's obvious distaste for editors, which was apparent for anyone whom has ever read "Mostly Harmless".

I sincerly hope you all have.

Speaking of Douglas, I'm in the middle of his final book, The Salmon of Doubt. I must say, quite good. Terrific bits and peices of work that will serve as a lasting memory of his brilliant work. Now that I've read all the books in the Hitchhiker's series, I suppose I might as well move on to Dirk Gently.

I'm particularly interested to read The Meaning of Liff.

Enjoying the summer,
DogNamedTruman

I'm not really here

An interesting snippet for you - Douglas was one of the 'founder members' of h2g2, but he didn't set up the Edited Guide. That happened after the people running h2g2 at the time took on an Editor. So perhaps not so surprising as you might think. smiley - biggrin

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
