So, here I am.
A freshborn member of h2g2.
In some people's eyes, the single greatest site on the web.
Well, it definitely ranks up there.
I've been looking it over for about a week now.
I find no flaw.
I find enlightenment and exceptional joy from reading it.
As it should be.
More later.

Hello there Kangus, and welcome to H2G2
It is the job of the ACES to welcome everyone new. Can i suggest you put something in your home page and you will find yourself visited by other Aces, Guardian Angels and who knows what else.
I should be pointing you in the direction of all sorts of wonderful places but being a bit slack i haven't got all the info with me atm.
If you've got any questions, feel free, ask away

such nice people you are.
under section 539 of the slacker code, most slackers are nice people.
I like slackers.

hello Linus the ACE,
where are you from? I am a student going to college near chicago in the US. I'm studying lots of stuff, but my major is supposedly psychology. I think I'm going to change it. Sociology sounds nice.
whatever.
thats all for now.

I live in Sydney Australia and its a long time since i went to school
As for being a slacker...Absolutely, thats why i am typing this from work
The guardian angels are similar to the Aces - Assistant Community Editors - in that they help new people to find their way around, the only difference being they are not 'official'. Makes no difference to the service.
You can usually find out a bit about people by clicking on their name as that will take you to their home page.
Gotta hate those time differences ;-(

Ah, a true slacker.
Doing work for one thing while you are supposed to be doing another.
That's how I got through high school.
I once had a pen-pal in australia. Long long ago.
He never put a return address on anything though, and one day I lost my only copy of his address. Thats why e-mail is great, you just hit reply and the address is right there.
I'm writing to a nice girl in England now and have been for nearly 3 years. All thanks to the internet.
I've got a last minute paper to write now.

eh, quit yer braggin'!
That is yet another joy of the net.
talking to people around the globe w/o ever leaving your room.
communities such as h2g2 make finding these people so much easier.
since the blue screen of death ate my paper earlier, I must rewriote it now. teach me to save early and often.

Unfortunately I have been reduced to using wordpad, which has no autosave what so ever.....
I need to find my MS office CD....
grumble, grumble....
I saved in a very paranoid state of oftenness this time through. Once every 3 sentences or so. I almost wanted a blue screen to pop up so I could laugh at it and say "hah! I've outsmarted you this time"
well, one paper down, many more bigger ones to go....
grumble, grumble....

it's enough to drive someone to drink...

I sometimes do think these papers would go a bit easier if I were at least a little tipsy...

Kangus Posted Oct 26, 2000
at least they'd be done.
besides, I'm 5 times better at video games when I'm drunk!
So why not writing papers?

Kangus Posted Oct 26, 2000
maybe I should wrap my paper around a six-pack.
Graduate students grade these things, not rich professors, so fortunately I'd not have to invest in fine wines as a bribe and/or essay enhancement utility. A six-pack would do just fine, me thinks.

I'm not a big fan of it either.
especially with the cheap crap we normally have around here.
If using a six pack as a bribe, I'd try a bit harder than cheap american beer though. some Guiness perhaps.
