And was saddened to read of the death of both Stephen Jay Gould, scientist and writer, as well as George Alec Effinger,SF writer.
On the other hand, I am cheered by the news that the Japanese attempt to hi-jack the IWC (how does land-locked Mongolia get to be on the IWC in any event?) has failed and that the moratorium on whale hunting remeins in place.
In addition, I read that the Cannes festival is to premiere a fully restored 70mm print of Jaques Tati's 'Playtime'. I await it's London premiere with eager anticipation.

Stephen Jay Gould is dead? When, how - he was comparatively young. I really enjoyed his books,fascinating!

Memory is a little hazy now but it was either heart attack or cancer.
A shining light has been extinguished, that's for sure.
