So I finally received my PhD and now I can stop calling myself Dr Dogster. That makes me think - what should I be called? There's something a bit wrong about the name Dogster. It makes me think of dogging and doggie style which is not the impression I'm trying to give. So what should it be?
My other website is called "The Samovar" but that doesn't really work in H2G2 somehow. I was thinking "Sam the Egg" (Samovar, Sam Ova), but it's a bit stupid.
Any ideas?

Hmmm...not exactly swamped with suggestions, are you?
As for Sam the Egg ...
Why not just Samovar, without 'The'?

Hehe, I'd forgotten all about this. You're right - not much response. I think my infrequent postings to h2g2 are probably not enough to get many people looking at my PS.
I have a name I occasionally use online to play poker, 'Esmephine' but it's sort of designed to give out the wrong impression of me. I have come to identify with it though.
Somehow Samovar and The Samovar both seem not quite right for h2g2, somehow not quite fitting with the character of names that people choose here. Not that that has to matter of course...

Didn't seem to matter to Nog.
How about something brain-related?
Brain in Spanish (Cerebro)? Or some cool-sounding obscure part of the brain that does something interesting. Thalamus?
Anyhow, am suffering from post-IKEA fatigue so must sleep now.

I think something brain related would be a bit immodest, even if amusing.
Perhaps I'm better off just sticking with what I know?

Immodest would be if you called yourself Brains (a la Thunderbirds).
Fat Duck?

I see you still haven't found a suitable new name - or have you decided to just stick with Dogster? How did you end up deciding on Dogster as a nickname, by the way? And how is Dogster more "fitting with the character of names that people choose here" than, say, Samovar?
Perhaps something French?

Chienster? Naah....
Yeah, I just couldn't quite find anything I liked. It's really hard to choose a name. Dogster has a long and silly history. Have you seen "North by Northwest"? Well, Eva Marie Saint is looking at Cary Grant's matchbox which says ROT on it, and she says "Roger O. Thornhill - what does the 'O' stand for?" He says, "Nothing, I just liked it." Anyhoo, I did the same with my initials when I first got on the internet and became 'dog'. I quickly found that there were millions of people calling themselves 'dog' so I stuck a 'ster' on the end. Bad decisions now that I look back on it, but this was when I was only about 15 so what can I say? Then I just sort of got stuck with it.
Hmm, now what could I go for?
Le Chien du Samovar?
Orange Pekoe? (My favourite tea.)
Roger O. Thornhill?
Camobap? (Samovar in the Cyrillic alphabet.)
Zavarka? (Russian word for the strong concentrated tea you mix with water - more on the samovar theme.)

Orange Pekoe is your favourite tea??? Probably best not to tell anybody this.
Chienster has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' in that nobody will know what the hell it means.
El Chien Samovar ... kind of like Un Perro Andaluz. Nah, too long.
Tea Dog?
Samster?
Zavarka has serious potential ... at least, I like it.
I also still like Fat Duck, and you know why.
Meanwhile, why not just plain Sam?
Danovar?
I could go on but Nog is threatening to cook dinner and I'm hoping to catch him before I end up making myself a grilled cheese sandwich in self-defense.
Later...

What's wrong with Orange Pekoe?!? It's a fantastic tea!
I'm mulling Zavarka round in my head and I think you're right - it has potential. I'll have to keep it my head for a while and see if it feels right or not...
I like Danovar.

It's not fantastic, it's your typical black tea. Nothing wrong with it, perse, but it's just kind of typical.
Yeah ... Danovar!

Hmm, just trying out Zavarka and I'm not sure it feels quite right. We'll see though.
Have you had a proper, large leaf OP? It's not just a typical tea - it's a seriously goddamned good tea. What are your favourites then?

I've only had tea-bag OP, so I am ready to appreciate that this has nothing to do with *real* leafy OP tea.
To be honest, I don't actually drink much tea. My favourites tend to be a natural herbal kind of lime-blossom-twig-tea infusion called tila (don't ask) and one black tea flavoured with orange-essence and cloves.
Hmmm... not sure about Zavarka. Sounds a bit harsh somehow.
I still like Fat Duck.

Oh sure, tea-bag OP is nothing special. It was probably broken orange pekoe anyway (BOP) or even worse.

Get yourself a bag of proper large leaf OP, leave to brew for a long time (5 mins min), stir it, put a tiny amount of milk in your mug, and pour tea over it. Trust me. Wait until it cools a little before drinking. That is how tea should be.
Agreeing about Zavarka. Trying Orange Pekoe on for size. Fat Duck is too much like being a Heston Blumenthal groupie.

So I just saw your thread here about the new software name - are you really going with Brian? I thought it might also work well as a new hootoo name for you.

Hehehe, that's good to know. I think Ed has called me that too.
I think it's too much effort to change name after all and I'm just going to stick with what I've got.
Unless I want to change my name to Psynapple?
