Zadok the Priest

Post 1

Effers;England.

This piece by Handel I think is the most wonderfully optimistic pieces of music ever written.

The actual Zadok words to do with the annointmant of King Solomon have been used at every coronation of an English Monarch since 973 of King Edgar at Bath Abbey. The words are used during the sacred annointment bit.

Handel wrote this piece of music forthe words for the coronation of George II 1727. It has been sung at every Coronation since.

To me the idea of actual annointment is to do with enduring power of life...(The King is dead. Long live the King).

Rudest Elf put me in touch with this site for music.

It is so overwhelmingly optimistic and well worth a listen I think.

Gnomon - time to move on

It's a great piece to sing too! I've sung it with my choral society.

Just about the only excuse for singing "God save the King" in the Republic of Ireland.

It is simply the most optimistic piece of music bar none for me.

And I think of the 'King' concept as metaphorical to do with LIFE itself. It can be sung anywhere.

LIFE=Nature in its entirety. Subjectivity as well as objectivity. (The whole shebang and shooting match smiley - winkeye)
