No frogs Toy box the pond went in just after they had already spawned...but maybe next year? But it really is the most tiny little pond, but still frogs aren't fussy. Yes photos will appear at some point. Last year I documented the garden for several months but the images weren't as good as I wanted due to nearly constant slight breeze that spoiled closeups. So fingers crossed this year. All my energies in the garden so far have been planting, digging, weeding, pruning etc. And there's quite a lot of bare earth at present whilst stuff is germinating. I've taken *some* photos though andd shall collate later. Because I'm such a perfectionist it takes a lot of concentrated energy to get the shot properly framed, waiting for the breeze to drop, getting light right etc and it isn't the greatest camera in the world, with limited telephoto. And what always happens, I'm just relaxing with and suddenly diferent species of hoverflies appear...a bird drinks from the pond...mother blackbird digs up a worm...I run in for camera and everything disappears. It's a conflict between documenting and just enjoying watching and looking. But knowing me I shall get some shots and they'll be much more interesting later in the year as flowers come into bloom. Mar, how are your microscope adventures going? If you need any help, just let me know. And I'd love to see and photos you have of your area and pots etc. Same goes for you Toy box. Ah yes, lime tree blossoms, le tilleul. I must warn you that herbal tea is rather associated with smiley - senior though. There are many of these planted in my hometown Reims (A33659210, though they are not mentioned there). For some reason when you parked underneath such a tree your car ended up all sticky the next morning smiley - biggrin

That, and chestnut trees. I wonder why the city insisted to plant chestnut trees in schools - was it educational, so that the staff could tell children not to throw the chestnuts at each other? (Oh, replace by 'horse chestnut' and 'conkers' where applicable.)

smiley - cakesmiley - tea

Microscope adventures Mar? Where, when? It seems I missed that!

As for pictures of my area and pots... Well, I don't have a garden smiley - blush and only one flower at home smiley - sorry

Funny thing, yesterday I was telling my husband about getting the blue of methilene to start enjoying the microscope. So, not much fun so far.

I tried to paste here some pictures of the gardens and the swimminpool I share with my neighbours, but... I´ll learn to put them in flickr as Arnold does.

But I can send you a picture with words:

Hi guys...and nice to see you here too, Anold...thanks for your photos smiley - biggrin

Here as promised are some of my garden

I like that we are so multi national. Anold in Japan, Mar in Spain, TB in France and me in England. smiley - smiley

PS my little pond is actually an old aquarium I've buried in the ground, and I was excited today to see that the stolen park rushes have sent out a young shoot which means they've rooted. Bought a bay plant today from the garden centre. I use this herb a lot in cooking so it's good to be able to use it fresh in cooking from now on.

Come on you other guys lets see some photos...even if it's only one flower toy box smiley - tongueout I bet it's a good one, whatever it is. smiley - laugh

I have two ponds ,one is in the garden the other on the deck , I wanted a big pond to keep Koi but couldn't get the plastic ,The biggest I could get was two metre square so i just dug a rough one metre square and sank it about forty centimetre , it has irises inside and out, plus lilies, the other one on the deck is a plastic thing seventy five cent in dia it has lilies in it too both have Medaka in and both have pumps.

My wifes cousin has a large fish farm with goldfish and Koi they export them all over the world , just like keeping fish,I used to breed Discus which I found very enjoyable.smiley - biggrin

I seem to be getting an 'algal bloom' in my pond despite the overcast weather. Shortly off to clean it out...(God this little pond is already taking over my life smiley - laugh But what better way to spend Easter sunday morning?)

Am pleased to have discovered though that the floating pond weed I nicked from the local pond is 'water crowsfoot' It is an indigenous plant and will produce little flowers later in the year. It is a lovely little plant. Its roots dangle down into water but its leaves poke up above the surface. It was a traditional plant in farm ponds and cows apparently waded in to eat it.

Am a bit upset that some of my seedlings have been eaten by slugs and the sparrows are going to town on the hawthorn buds. Survival of the fittest...don'tcha just love it? smiley - erm

Slugs are the fittest? Wouldn't that flatly contradict Evolution Theory?

The pond sounds even nicer now. And the pictures were amazing, thank you for posting them smiley - smooch

(I took a few too, now I have to pick the bestest ones and, um, I'll send them to you probably.)

In terms of survival of the fittest I was thinking of those seedlings that didn't get eaten. You buy a packet of seeds, it says something like 'these are easy to grow', not, 'these are easy to grow, but most will get eaten by slugs because this the way things go, otherwise your seedlings will quickly take over the earth'.

Hi Effers,
I love your garden.
I´ve smiled at the "love lies bleeding" That´s Romantic hardcore indeed!

About the seeds, haven´t you got a place to make them germinate in little pots -like that of yogurt- to plant them later?

I´ve read today in the newspaper that the skin of banana is used as a fertilizer. It has many minerals. YOu have to cut it in small dices and put it near the roots. There were other tips, but those are for mediterranean gardens. I know I´ll have one, sooner or later smiley - sigh

They also advise to have a place to collect the rainwater; also ponds as you do, etc. I´ve been thinking of you all the while. YOu dedicate a lot of time to your garden and this, appart from giving you pleasure, makes the garden look natural, not as those who pay attention to it only now in spring and it´s by buying a lot of plants that will die, most of them, in a few months.
I´m glad to see you aren´t a "seasonal gardener"

smiley - sigh
My red lilies are taking a lot to grow. But my lavender is all green and lushy, there will be flowers soon, by May I think.

Post more photos here, pleasesmiley - smooch
