By that I mean that it's not a change, not that it's not raining, if you see what I mean. I am so fed up with this unspring-like weather! But I will soon be off to Canada, where according to my friends in Calgary, spring-like temperatures mean anything between 5 and 25 Celsius. By the time I get there, I can expect between 10 and 30 - makes packing slightly problematic, but I've decided to assume that they will be in the higher range, and borrow sweaters if necessary.
It's been an average week - just enough work to stop it being boring, but not really enough to make me tired by Friday. Took the day off on Thursday, with the intention of doing stuff to get ready for Canada, but spent most of the time looking (unsuccessfully) for a new pair of jeans. Bought a nice jacket (denim) which I don't desperately need. Got some Canadian dollars from the bank - so at least I could tick one thing off on the list.
Have spent a lot of time pottering in the office, thinking "Oh there's masses of time before I go", but today realised that there's less than two weeks, and quite a lot of things happening immediately after I get back that I should flag up to various people before leaving. Still, at least it means next week will be anything but boring!
I should stop wittering on ... Phoned my sis to find out if she's got a new job, for which she was interviewed yesterday, but they haven't told her yet. A whole team of people where she works are being made redundant, so they are all applying for any job in the field which comes up, and she is in competition with one of her colleagues for this one. Sounds from what she says as if she is better qualified, but he lives nearer the area. Fingers crossed.
Off to watch Have I Got News for You.

annie, Have a fantastic time in Canada. I have only passed through Calgary and that was 25 years ago so will be very interested to hear your report when you get back.
I'm absolutely fed up with being cold too. Keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have summer whilst you're away.
Safe journey.

Thanks Polly and Martine for the good wishes for Canada - I'm not actually leaving for another couple of weeks (two weeks today in fact - yippee!), but I'm quite excited already.
I consider that I'm quite a well-travelled person, but I've spent very little time in North America, and I'm looking forward to this trip a lot. Especially:
Vancouver - I love Sydney and from the pictures I've seen this looks like a northern hemisphere equivalent;
the two-day train journey from Vancouver to Calgary (just got the ticket!);
seeing my friends in Calgary, who emigrated a year ago, and their adorable daughter, now just two.

annie,
Vancouver is wonderful. Don't miss Gas Town. Water skiing in the morning and snow skiing in the afternoon. I'm not suggesting that you should do these things but illustrating how wonderful it is to look out at the Pacific with the Rockies behind you. Drove from Toronto to Vancouver and the final part between Calgary and Vancouver - through the Rockies - was wonderful. You are in for a real treat.
Enjoy every second.

That's true in general - I remember hearing somewhere that Cambridge is one of the driest places in the UK. It's just been such a dreary cold wet spring that it's hard to imagine anything else.
Yep, there are one or two of us around here. You too?

Having said that Manchester was wetter than here in Cambridge, of course today I pop up the road to the newsagents and the bakery, its spitting a bit... Very humid to boot, what a loverly combination..... And by the time I'm walking back, its a good heavy drizzle Actually, the coolness of the rain was a bit of a relief from the humidity; I've been crawling about in the loft this morning, and carting big heavy storage cases of casettes from the spare room to be stored away in the loft Yeh; I've been an Archurs fan for quite a few years, never really began listening to it till I was about 17 or 18, but I've been a very regular listener now about ten years therefore I'd probably have started listening earlier, but my parents were not listeners so I never relaly got exposed to it, till I became an avid radio four listener (the comedy programs probably first got me hooked on radio four, plus the intelligent debat and political comentry that seemed to be abscent pretty-much everywhere else) So what do you think is going to happen with James?

Hi 2 Legs. If you are interested in discussing the Archer's storylines can I suggest that you have a look at the BBC Archers messageboards. You'll find sugggestions for what will and what should happen to James being discussed there along with all manner of other Archers and non-Archers matters.
Keeps raining here on and off too.

Consider carefully, the place is moer addictive than any known drug. Also you will need a more snappy screen name. Any ideas?

More snappy?..... Hmm, well I could just use the main bit of my name '2legs' or isn't that quite the way the bords work there? I guess I could try to think of a whitty Archurs realted name..... Hmm, if i could or just use my real name 'Mark ' or even just copy someone and go for 'Mark in Cambridge' Hmm, I don't know what you think?

I'm Annie MS on the Archers board, just felt like a change here. As Polly said, that's the place to go for opinions on James! We already have a regular poster called Mr Legs, so 2legs might lead to some confusion. There are plenty of witty names there too which might give you some ideas.
Just looking out of my window at the pouring rain and hoping that it stops before I have to go out to the hairdresser's in half an hour.

Yeh; the rain has really pulled out all the stops this afternoon. And I just rediscovered* the leak above the window frame in the front room I was hoping it'd fix itself oh well, I hope it stops too, I'm not going out till about 6 But all the same I'd prefer it to get a while to dry up outside before my shoes get filthy dirty again talking of dirty, I must get on with this housework Hmm, there is already a Mr legs! *thinks about names* 'Tom's sausage' naa..... 'The bull downstairs' naa '2legs in the mud' ... Hmm, that doesn't sound too bad.... I think the pint glass I put under the leek wasn't sufficiently large a recepticle
