New kitchen sink

The fitter is back....

I have a working kitchen sink - running water (hot and cold) and drainage. And a working gas hob (as long as I use a match to light the gas, the electric ignition not yet connected). Don't want to use any of it while it's all so new - and the rest of the kitchen so unfinished.

Just emptied the big bookcase in the living room so that the fitter can get access to the electric socket (to create a new socket on the other side of the wall for the fridge). So the one room that was very vaguely in some sort of order is now knee deep in books. Had to move all my Antartica books - when they're on the shelves its easy to ignore that I've rather a lot of them. Perhaps when I reshelve them I can bring down the ones upstairs as well - just have to figure out what books can go upstairs instead. I've nearly filled the extra shelving I got last year.

Keep waking up at 3 in the morning and not going back to sleep - a sign that the new job is getting to me. This, combined with long days at work, means that by the weekend all I'll want to do is sleep - instead of play with the new kitchen!

Hebe, it's a shame to hear the job is getting to you. Is this the same 'new' job you were unsure about at the Embra minimeet?

When you get stressed about job you should just stare at the beautiful new kitchen to cheer yourself up. As long as you don't start doing a Radio Carter... smiley - winkeye

Hi Cat,

new job is at the same place but very frontline operational - I'm managing where you would turn up first if you needed to go to where I work unexpectedly - if you remember the employer you'll figure it out! (Being a little cryptic as I don't usually mention where I work on the boards as my employer would be very identifiable given I'm fairly open about where I live). It's a secondment and is very interesting but also just a little pressured! There's a lot to learn and I tend to be a bit of a worrier - so I stop sleeping....

Got offered it just as I'd made my mind up to start seriously looking for a new job (elsewhere) but didn't feel I could not give this one a go (quite a vote of confidence to be offered it really).

Glad I'm doing it but not yet decided whether I want it permanently or not.

Er might be turning into Susan - 2 sets of friends already booked in to view the kitchen next week....

There's that wonderful short story by Colette where a young divorcee is showing off to her friends her very spiffy new flat opposite Notre Dame. She just drinks in the compliments : all the others have to make do with temporary lodgings.
But when they have gone home and the maid has gone too to meet her fiancé who is on leave, she suddenly finds herself very lonely. So she picks up a book and the rest of the chocolate , deserts her the sunset on Notre-Dame from her splendid drawing-room and finds refuge in the bathroom, uncomfortably sitting on a chair stuck between the bath and a wardrobe and then peace descends.

Perhaps it's good to have an unreconstructed nook when all the shiny surfaces become too much.

Envy talking here.

there's always my garden (I'm a very successful grower of dandelions and bindweed) when I need that unreconstructed nook...

don't think I've read any Colette since I was a student - when I bought a couple of her books secondhand and then got hooked. However all those books are in my mother's loft so haven't been reread in a long time. Must recover them sometime (when I've invested in more bookshelves),
