An empty kitchen

Have packed up the kitchen - and then spent a lot of today excavating essential items from the bottom of boxes (teaspoons, the ipod charger, the liquid soap I use for washing "delicates" etc). Have had to sit firmly on my hands so that I don't clean the oven, after all it's going to the tip on Wednesday. I'm sure the kitchen fitter is not going to judge me on the state of my cooker. Did all but polish the fridge though - but that is going to the son of our HR director's PA - and I don't want her thinking I'm a complete household slut.

So downstairs is now full of boxes and apppliances in strange places - and since the house is open plan I can't get away from it.

Had a good time at my friends on saturday night - and the salmon in filo pastry came from the Jennifer Aldridge's Archers (or Ambridge?) cookbook! Friend is a listener - in fact it was she who first alerted me to ML - or at least to the online synopses. She denies venturing onto the boards but I'm not entirely convinced....

Finally cut the grass in the back garden for the first time this year (hangs head in shame - don't think I can admit that in the Village Hall). My wonderful new (pink) ipod is going to be a boon as it makes this very boring job a lot more pleasant.

Back to work tomorrow - I already have that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I may have taken on more than I want with the new job.

ooo -- you got a pink ipod!

I read in a Sunday glossy that they were rare and sought-after.

I bought a 20GB Samsung mp3 player but I stopped using it after I found that it runs down after about 4 hours' play. It lasted up to Edinburgh on the train and a bit on the way back then it gave out. Pah! My minidisc player was far better than that.

they say pink ipods are hard to get - but when I got mine (bought in Barcelona airport) the online apple store seemed to have them in stock. It was an impulse buy but I think I'm in love with it.. Totally changed how I listen to music (I nearly always "shuffle").

I gather that mp3 players are probably the way to go - but I've yet to see one that is anywhere as near as desirable as my little pink toy!

Don't know how long it will play for - I probably haven't played it for more than a couple of hours before recharging - but that's because I've plugged it into the pc to add more tracks to it (I love the way it can be recharged via my laptop),

Hi Hebe & Dagesh,

Very impressed by the pink ipod but isn't the point of ipods that they're so small nobody can see them - I've certainly never seen anyone using one unless they look exactly like an early walkman.

Also very impressed by the polishing of the fridge. Is it being replaced by a built in affair. If it is can I pass on a piece of advice - my friend installed one but didn't check the fuse box was up to it. Result - fridge condensor heated up the surrounding cupboards, no fusing and total devastation of kitchen, hallway and upsairs bathroom due to smoke damage. Just a word to the wise.

eek Polly, conversation to be had with the electrician and the fitter asap.... And my fuse box isn't brilliant (very recent discussion re new shower - not electric partly due to the fuse box).

re the ipod - might not be on show much but I know it's pink (and I have been known to take it out of my bag or pocket to stroke it...). Actually I'm looking forward to showing it off at the gym. I usually listen to audio tapes (currently up north with Phillip Pullman and Lyra) on my very old walkman (not even a sony) and could do with a sticker that says "my other personal listening device is a pink ipod so there to your supercilious glances"!
