Neglect and being busy and mining.

Well, I've really neglected my personal space for a while, and haven't had a chance to say hello to all those groovy people here.
Sorry. Work is getting in the way of surfing at the moment.
I have had chance to go data mining into that rich seam of the internet of old.
Found a lovely copy of h2g2 from Feb 29th 2000. Peta's Peck of Picks was great!
"A Peck of Peta's Picks takes you to some of the juicy bits of h2g2. If an entry is creative, evolving, or happening, you'll find it listed here. Suck it and see!"
That day was a Tuesday, and the editor's recommendations were:
A264331 - Caution Wet Floor
A264395 - M*A*S*H
A264403 - Important Events in the History of Scotland
A264421 - Interpreting James Joyce's Ulysses
"This selection was brought to you by the h2g2 Five-a-Day Guarantee: we promise to bring you at least five brand new official guide entries every day of your working week. You can also see all the entries put up over the last month. Impress your friends! Develop your cocktail-party conversation skills! It's all here at h2g2, the ever-growing guide to life on Earth."

Welcome to h2g2. We are Researchers just like yourself and have a few links you may like to try out.
One of the most popular is to put a link on your page which allows you add the who is online link on your home page. This allows you to see who is currently logged on to h2g2 anytime you wish.
Bruce has a GuideML Clinic which is there to help you solve any problems you may have with your homepage. If you want a picture or graphic to appear on your homepage then the picture has to be situated somewhere on the web and will need your own website to do it.
If you want to write an article for the Guide, first check out The Submissions Guidelines. It might give you an idea of the kind of thing they are looking for. Once you have written your entry you can have it reviewed by other Researchers, which may help you to get it accepted into the guide. So put your entry into the The Critique Fun Run and talk to others about the hard work you put into the entry. It can be fun and you can learn a lot about writing.
The H2g2 Post is h2g2's very own community newspaper. The launch date for the newspaper was the 6th December 1999,and there have been 9 editions so far. You can help here by reporting anything you find of interest to the Post team - or you can volunteer to become a Reporter and see your articles published in the newspaper. New issues are released on Sunday eve and news briefs are posted daily.
Look to the future with the Interactive Horoscope and see what fun your future holds.
Do you like Pubs and Pints ? Then why not tell Pastey where you can find the best place to exercise your right arm.
Do you want to join the Virtual SoftBall Team? Then visit TV's Frink and join up. There is a great newsletter for you to read.
Is there really Extra-terrestrial Life? Join the h2g2 http://web.archive.org/web/20000304192925/http://www.h2g2.com/A195879 group and help in the search.
A brief history of the evolution of the Aces scheme. The community suggested names here - Sub-Community Editors, we voted on it here - the voting page - and finally announced the scheme here - The Sub-Community Editors are now called...
If you live in the UK why not try StevenR's UK SEARCH MAP . Hey, researchers in the states need not feel left out- StevenR has also compiled a STATES SEARCH MAP - not quite finished, but have a look around when visiting.
Some more interesting places......1
1. Dandruff and Advertising
A quick synopsis of a generic dandruff shampoo advert, and what you at home can do to counter the rising tide of sewage that is poured through your set every 10 - 15 minutes.
2. Tea
A look at the cultural differences caused by the Atlantic Ocean, and how to show those across the pond that the king of drinks is tea.
3. Selection Rhymes
A collection of poems, used by children to select things (surprisingly). If you know any others then write them in the forum, and where and why and how you learned it. Please, there must be more out there than the poor showing currently on the page.
First....this forum shows just what a daft bunch we all can be here! The postees are from as far afield as the USA, NZ ,Aussie ,England and Holland...and it was a continuation of a much longer thread! : http://www.h2g2.com/forumframe.cgi?forum=12857&thread=25339
4. Newcomers!
Last, but certainly not least, this page if for you, the newcomers. This page will ease you into h2g2, if you're a bit uneasy, listing a few places you might like to explore, as well as hosting a weekly forum for that week's newbies.
1 Well possibly
