Dr. Funk

To the greater community, in case it matters:

I am in a band with four core musicians and a host of guests. We play, among us, fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass, harmonica, and drums. For a really long time, we thought we played a groovy version of Appalachian stringband music, dance music from the 1860s. Comments from the crowd have led us to think otherwise:

"I keep trying to describe you guys to people. Sort of visceral rockabilly funk or something."

"That doesn't *sound* like Irish music."

"I've never heard old-time played quite like that."

"You guys are really just a jam band, aren't you."

Come and hear us play sometime, if you're in New York City and have nothing better to do.

-Most Fridays at Sunny's, on Conover Street between Read and Beard, in Red Hook, Brooklyn. 8-11.

-Saturday, March 31, 2001: The Brazen Head, 228 Atlantic Avenue off Court St., also in Brooklyn. 8-11.

-Friday, April 6, at Freddy's, at Deane St. and 6th Avenue off Flatbush, in Brooklyn.

More gigs to come...
