h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I'm putting myself under a voluntary one week suspension from h2g2. It might become permanent - it might not - we'll see how things go. I'm not happy with the banning of LeKZ, in case you hadn't figured that out. The 'final warning' - indeed, the only warning - was given without a specific reason. The common assumption is that it was a result of the 'intelligence' thread. Colonel Sellers, myself, maybe others, couldn't see what was such a problem about her behaviour there, save that she suddenly found herself in the middle of a warzone. The prior suspension was on hugely dodgy grounds - the official reason points out a post which nobody could actually say what was offensive about it, save Mark's comment that 'numerous researchers' had complained. Plenty of people complained that this was the wrong decision. To make an over the top response once might seem to be carelessness. To do it twice begins to look like a vendetta. I don't know which it is, but I do know that for the next week h2g2 will be going on merrily without me or my unedited entries. No doubt some will see this as childish - who cares. This is something I have to do. You may consider this matter dropped. I've made my points - or I will have by the time I go to bed, and there's nothing more I need say. Enjoy yourselves without me - I know you will, since I'm scarcely central to the community anyway. I hope this is a place I can be happy in again when I return. Here's hoping.

I won't start a debate over the case (and I've from the other thread in the Soapbox). Just this: how would you react if you ran a web site and found the ominous X-message adressed at you (which *can* be deciphered), from someone who should really know about the house rules. Let it pass, and wait for another occasion?

I am leaving too, for a while.

I have had an email from LeKZ and I am horrified by what has been done to them. And I truly do not know whether I am prepared to participate in a community which can do that to someone as damaged and willing to change as LeKZ.

Martin, Lucinda, Xanthia, et al, it has been a pleasure to see you in the forums. What you say is always interesting, thought provoking and challenging. And your championship of LeKZ made me think deepluy about her, and see past my initial impressions of sound and fury. Many thanks indeed.

After reflection, I've decided that I almost certainly won't be leaving, so I'll be coming back to h2g2 come this weekend. Doing exactly what, I'm less sure - I fancy a complete change of direction...
