Here's the address of the guy in charge of BBC Online. It's publically available. Those who wish to change BBC Policy (as opposed to merely changing how it applies to h2g2) might want to send him a few letters. I probably will.

Ashley Highfield
Director - BBC Online

Thank you Lucinda for the info.

I will send a few snail mails myself.

You are a gem. smiley - smiley

Thanks smiley - smiley If you can persuade your fellow revolutionaries to follow suit, maybe we'll get a sufficient flood to get a change in policy - it won't happen right away, but I reckon it'll make a difference.

You seem to be a very capable man, Lucinda. I do wonder, however, what policies you are referring to exactly. And I am also curious as to your real name as "Lucinda" seems unlikely.

Lucinda is probably not, a man. I can say that the name definitely defies a name most English-speaking persons who possess Y chromosomes would have on their birth certificates.

As for the real name, Lucinda is more than real enough. In fact I find it quite pretty. smiley - smiley

Whoops, just read the intro. smiley - smiley

Lucinda must be a nickname.

The name on my birth certificate is "Martin" - though how real that is I leave to you to decide... smiley - winkeye

I'm referring to, for example, the BBC Producer Guidelines on the general election, and the guidelines on linked URLs, and so on and so forth.

Scaroth, Last of the Jagaroth

I have no problem with people adopting nicknames for themselves and Lucinda is rather a splendid one. I simply asked what your real name is as I like to know more about the people I am dealing with. I am quite curious as to this :X creature as well.

Creature. smiley - smiley

I like that.

My given name is Joe. It's pronounced throat warbler mangrove. smiley - smiley

I aim to please.

Should I call you :X or Joe. Or indeed throat warbler mangrove. I will even refer to you as "creature" if you so wish, though I would prefer not to.

Post 12

The High Duke of Mars

LOL, Joe works. smiley - smiley

I can not see why you should be laughing but then I can not be bothered to go into it either. If Joe works then that is how I shall refer to you, you bizarre thing.

HAHAHAHAHA smiley - smiley

I think I enjoy "bizarre thing" even better than "creature." I find both deeply amusing. Actually, you have inspired me. smiley - smiley

Hi Lucinda

Can I just point out that mailing Ashley won't make any difference *whatsoever*; we know him, he listens to us, we do pass on all your views you know, really we do. Why don't you just trust us to sort things?

Hi Peta smiley - smiley

Three reasons:

1) I think this may genuinely do some good. Amnesty International have been writing letters for longer than I've been alive, and that's what they recommend... smiley - winkeye

2) While I'm absolutely sure you do read and pass on all our views, that reading and passing on is liable to eat into your time. Put simply, you have a job to do, and reading complaints about moderation ain't it, right? There's an argument for "cutting out the middleman" here, I think. {yeah, or middlewoman}.

3) certain people, partly including me, just want to do SOMETHING. I'd rather that they (and I) took out their frustration with pen and paper, or petitions, or changes of names, or whatever, rather than taking it out on your team or on each other. An escape valve is no bad thing...

Does any of that make any sense whatsoever? smiley - smiley I do trust you, and I do think you'll sort it. If you think writing letters is going to make things worse for you, that's different - but in the worst possible case the letter will just go in the bin and I'll have wasted a stamp - so why not?

Can I just say how nice it is to have inspired somebody to change their nickname. I am really quite chuffed now.

Okay, fine by me then Lucinda. Ashley Highfield is a really nice guy, I'm sure he'd read your letter with interest and not bin it. smiley - smiley

Great convo by the way, made me giggle. smiley - smiley

Lucinda re: your post over on the "Hands in beret" thread, people are human and prone to moments of ire, moments of temper, and moments of indiscretion, or at least you mortals are. smiley - tongueout

I realize my behavior is *always* inscrutable, but cut yourself some slack.
