Columbia Glacier Ice Field
Phred Firecloud Posted Sep 1, 2007
Mrs. Phred and I took our lawn chairs out to the country road. We stayed until sunrise at approx. 6 AM (4am Pacific)...saw a couple of flashes...I think we are too far east...but it was worth a shot...Thanks, Ed.

No worries. It's often the case with things astronomical: get all prepared (with sleeping patterns &c) and then either cloud or something else from the chaos prevents observation. So it goes. At least you are better equipped now (stellarium is very cool) for future events... My next planned evening is for the Leonid meteors in November: i saw them as a fantastic show some years back but they aren't expected to be as many this year. Heigh ho.
A guy over at sciencefile (based in Spain) saw a couple of Aurigids the evening before the predicted maximum. I saw none last night.
Keep well. ed.

Nice picture.
We only found out about this phenomenon after the fact, but did see the beautiful lunar eclipse. One out of two isn't bad.

Very nice photo. We enjoyed sitting in our lawn chairs, before dawn, sipping coffee in the middle of an empty country road.

From source:
...from Tom Klimek of Lemon Grove, California: "From 0415 to 0435 Pacific time, I saw eight meteors. Two were especially long and bright, about the same magnitude as Sirius. One left a five second trail across Orion!"
___________end of snippet.
Fish-eye lens views are my preference. ed.
