Work and A Levels

Post 1

Uncle Heavy [sic]

I am the first of a new generation. A generation of candidates taking the new style A Levels. This means that I don't get two years to prepare for tough exams. I get one year to prepare and have exams and then a second. This is manifestly a bad thing. We have to do four subjects now, not three, to AS level (nominally half an old A) and then drop one for the A2, which might be described as 'difficult'.

This equates to more work and less time in which to do it. Here's an example. Sometime during your day, think of me. (Painful, I know, but bear with me) I'll probably be doing work. That or sleeping. But more like as not work. Then think of me latter. I'll still be doing work. i have what you might call a 60 hour week. Which is about a third more than the government recommends.

A final thought, then: Hurrah for Tony Blair! (And hurrah! for my new Headmaster, for it was he who thought this bloody idea up in the first place.)

Radiant. Absolutely radient. My work has nicely settled into a pattern. Well, a rut. At least i can cope. Just. But I've been cast a big part in a school play, so I think I may not be having free time for a bit...

And you. How are you? Recovered from your hospital thing?

A lot better thanks but I seem to see more of the medical profession at the moment then any one else. Lots of blood tests and horrible things like that!

Which play are you doing?

The Three Muskateers. I am D'Artagnan.

I have a tiny sneeking suspicion of miscasting.

I doubt it - you are a superhero here on h2g2 and the People's champion! And that is what d'Artagnan was! Sounds perfect to me! smiley - smiley

Yes. But does it matter that all the musketeers are at least five inches taller than me?

Hmm.

I see your point

*thinks hard*

no it does not matter because D'Artagnan is meant to be at least 15 years younger then Porthos, Aramis and the one whose name I can never remember. They are in their thirties I think and he is meant to be just out of his teens!

I also made that bit about the people up...

I guess i'll be fine in the play. It just means my life is being sapped. And I'm supposed to swing in from a rope at one bit, but I have paralysing vertigo, which could make things interesting...

Oh, and It's Aramis who you cannot remember.

Yes. You are, in fact, right. Silly me.

Just out of interest, are there really over 60000 regular H2G2 users? If so, where do they hide?
