Foothills of the Sandias

A bit groggy this morning. I'm supposed to go and watch the NFC and AFC playoffs today. Not really interested. Think I may find myself in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. They lie on the eastern edge of Albuquerque. There is plenty to do there; bike, hike, picnic, catch a sunset. The weather has been nice and if you find yourself on the top of a small rise you can see for miles beyond the city. If you sit still for awhile there is plenty of wild life to catch sight of. Deer, jackrabbits, prairie dogs. Rare birds if you are quiet and lucky enough.

Those mountains sound beautiful. Don't get to see many living here in London, UK, But I can dream.

They are wonderful mountains. From nearly every location in albuquerque if you look east you will see the rock face cliffs of the Sandias staring back at you, the peak at just over 10,000 feet, Albuquerque averaging itself at 5,000. The sandias are very dynamic. Snow lies itself down on the peak in the winter but rarely shows itself here in the city. There is skiing as well as good old fashioned sledding. If you travel to the east side of the mountains, you'll find yourself looking at a gradually rising slope of dense forest and considerable more water compared to the desert rock cliffs of the west side. The peak itself offers views of over 70 miles and on extremely clear days up to 100+.

greyturtle I envy you living in such a beautiful place. I have visited lovely places on holiday but that is not the same as having them on your 'doorstep'. London is good for cultural stuff though. I live in a very multicultural friendly street. And I have a garden with my flat in which I enjoy growing things. I'm very much looking forward to the spring.
