I was refering to me there not Auden... His poem can sound like drivel too though,. it depends how it's being read, read it one way and it's all sincerirty and tears, read it another and it sounds like someones taking p!ss...

I'm tired and in a mood.

I read that at my grandfather's funeral. It's always struck a cord with me, possibly because I read it first, and the only time I've heard it out loud, besides when I read it, was at a friend's funeral.

Everything is affected by what you bring to it, if you see what I mean... To me it sounds terribly insincere, I think it was Four Weddings and a Funeral that has a scene with it being told in a way that's actually moving to me.

I've been trying to find out why he wrote it. It looks as though it was to go in one of his plays: he hadn't lost anybody at the time. I think it may be intended to have a slightly cabaret flavour to it: poignant, but a little melodramatic.

As you say, it depends how you read it, and, I think, on whose behalf you're reading it. It worked really well in 4W&AF.

I take that back, I saw that movie and had forgotten about that scene. It did work very well.

Nice bath was it? With candles? Tisn't a *proper* bath unless it is well over an hour long and has candles...

Damn, I've never had a "proper" bath then... I've always been without candles...

There's a trail of wax running down the chest of draws in my bedroom because I lit them in there and then eventually ended taking the bath without moving them into the bathroom. I've left it there 'cause I think looks kinda pretty. The carpet doesn't look good with the wax on it though...

Put some paper towel, or a paper shopping bag over it and then go over it with a hot iron... of the clothing pressing variety.

I love it when a plan comes together...
