Watched it today with a girl friend. It was fun and exciting, and I was oddly glad and depressed. A strange AND HIGHLY CONFUSING MIX.
I liked Trillian but disliked the chemistry that went with her and Arther, especially the shower scene. Then what was up with the woman with Zaphod... Ugh.
The vogons were perfectly disgusting, though vogonsphere was again eek. And the sperm whale scene was froody. The beginning was . The best part was that the thing's dedicated to Douglas. Very poignant, despite the changes.

But the point of view wasn't in the book! And what ever are they going to do when Fenchurch drops by?

Hi Elwyn
I haven't seen the film yet but the BBC are repeating the original TV series here in the UK. It really is superb, so dry and ironical, I haven't seen it in years. If you ever get the chance to view it you'd love it. I presume the TV series is closer to the book. I must say though I like the idea of the Point of View gun, I think Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay for the film before he died; it sounds like one of his brilliant quirky inventions.

Hey Red,
Now I feel almost better. It bothered me for awhile that the film was changed, until you pointed out that Douglas Adams most likely came up with it in the screenplay, if so, then's it's grand

Douglas Adams did write the screenplay (and i think it was like his 3rd version) and if you notice he's also listed as Producer and Screen-writer or something alone those lines. When he died they were asking his wife and his friends and stuff to make sure the movie turned out perfect.
The TV show is a bit closer to the books, but in such a small amount of space it does half the books. (we own the DVD of it)

fo all the radio episodes. This is the most 'pure' form of hitchhikers, as he originally conceived it for the radio. In case you think I'm being precious about hitchhikers, I'm not, I meant 'pure' ironically because Adams himself was quite happy for it to evolve into other media. Nontheless I think it's fascinating to go to it's origins and see all the ways it has grown.
