From time to time I will feel obliged for the sake of balance to break my self-imposed purdah. I'm getting more than a little sick of a certain exercise in myth-making. First we have http://www.channel4.com/film/reviews/film.jsp?id=163052 , then http://www.boingboing.net/2007/09/12/hey-its-another-joy.html , now Simon Armitage is proposing that Ian Curtis be commemorated in the Radio 4 program 'Great Lives'.
Sorry to sound off-key here, but Joy Division were a mediocre band that produced one song over and over again. Their name had unpleasant Nazi overtones. Ian Curtis wasn't an amazing singer, tunesmith or lyricist, but a rather sad miserabilist who tried to make solipsism into an art form. Dying is easy. Getting a life is more of a challenge.
New Order are crap as well. And their name stinks.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
