Western Vacation
coelacanth Posted Jul 15, 2000
Not here, no, but I'll describe it. Antway, it'll be a while. I have to leave my existing job first, and then pack. Argh!

Packing is the pits. The thought of packing will prevent me from ever moving again!

Last move was 4 years ago, and I'm already planning to do it again in about 18 months, although it's only a vague plan.
I'm not a nomad, but I will be earning a whole lot more by then, and I really need a bigger place than I can afford this year. So this move is quite temporary, but it is better to buy than rent cos I make any profit instead of a landlord.

I spoke to the vets today, but they would like to meet the old boy first and check him over before deciding what he could take. (Asleep by my feet atm). They also offer a herbal remedy, so if he's too old for medication I'll try this.

Sounds like a good plan. I'd love to see a photo of him! I spent an hour over at my parent's using their scanner and putting my vacation pics onto a disk. Only, when I came home and tried to post them I found I had accidently saved the same photo over and over! Typical!!

Oh no! What a waste of time.
I'm just learning how to use my scanner, but I have successfully put pictures into Sunshine's Latin homework. She was impressed and thought it was "brilliant" which is her fave phrase.
You don't really need a picture of Rufus. Get a plump cushion, imagine it covered in ginger fur, then put it on the couch. That's him

You could put the cushion on the floor sometimes and trip over it. He's not too fat realy, just plumper than he used to be as a youth. Middle age spread, as he still eats as much.
I'm having such great fun in the tea room! I laugh aloud at every turn. I would love to be like this one day (just for one day though, I don't think I could keep it up). Aren't we all being horrid to each other!
Babel-17? A very good h2g2 friend. We met in the queue for the grand tour where he gave me the fab drinking hat. (fins being difficults for holding glasses). We chat in other forums and email sometimes. He's 400 miles away, but if you check out his homepage I am mentioned as the fellow researcher he flashed to on the road. It gets a check in mine too.
This was a very strange encounter

He sounds like a lot of fun!!
My daughter has a cat, Boo, who is so fat that they call him Low-Rider for a nickname. He's a black long-haired cat, very lazy.

In RL a low rider is a car that has been fixed up with hydrolic lifts that take the body down nearly to the ground, then lift it high into the air, so that it kind of bounces as it goes down the street. This was popular in the latino community of LA back in the '80's.
Old pop culture stuff!
My mother told me about a heroic cat that saved a family. There was a gas leak that the people didn't know about. They were groggy and falling asleep. The cat woke them by licking the woman's eyelids and carrying on to go out. Then it lead her out of the door and to the back yard where it dug through decorative rocks in the garden until the woman heard and could smell the gas. It was a main line and could've easily blown up along with all the other houses on the street connected to it. So this cat ended up with a medal for heroism! Pretty smart cat.

Wow! There are so many stories like this. Cats are special creatures. I've never never lived without one. I've left my job now, and the packing starts, er, tomorrow. Maybe. Or the day after. :-) Or next week. (Old dear ideas please at http://www.h2g2.com/F27622?thread=66238) ><>
