things to stay stable when they're not.
I've been at my "temp" job for almost four months now, on a 2 1/2 month assignment. There's been no discussion of keeping me, yet because of some company changes (due to General Motors deciding to divest themselves of GMAC) and the brouhaha in New Orleans, there is an amazing amount of new work coming in. It's about to overload the staff with the disaster adjustments to the mortgages down there.
I would hate to benefit from misfortune, but I have to keep reminding myself not to get too comfortable...

You're not. You're doing a job, and someone's gotta do it!

Well, the opportunity actually came out of finishing a contract for another temp (who had the unfortunate tendancy to sleep at the keyboard!) to replace a woman who was out on leave for cancer treatment. And my contract was extended due to a medical leave for another employee...
The good news is, the cancer survivor has the best possible prospects, as she's heading into her outpatient radiation therapy! The woman coming back on Monday is out for voluntary surgery, and she's fine too.
They will need all the help they can get, since there are almost 2800 properties in the hurricane areas which are directly or indirectly serviced by the company I'm working for!
