Hi!

I've just finished subbing your entry A3320902.

The only major alterations were to your list of links to external websites. While most of them remain, in order that they be correctly titled I have moved some into tags. (The and attributes are not part of Approved GuideML.)

I have had to remove the links to Microsoft, as it is a wholly commercial entity, and thus breaches h2g2 guidelines. (In any case, it's not as if nobody knows their URL!)

99% of your actual text stays as is.

Excellent entry, very well-written. smiley - ok

I hope it's still okay. I will return it to the Editors after a week. Can you please let me know within that time if there's anything with which you're unhappy, and I'll do my best to help. smiley - smiley

Cheers!

A couple of things, especially as I am a subed myself, and have been for quite awhile.

The link to microsoft did NOT break the guidelines. Only links to pages that allow you to buy things directly break the guidelines. Links to pages about a corporation's history or structure have always been considered appropriate, and links to a company's main page are considered okay if you are not able to purchase things directly from that page.

Furthermore, using the tag in links is definitely considered okay for Edited Guide entries -- I've had the italics specifically request that I do so in my own subediting. Please put the links back the way they were, they simply don't work as references -- that tag is meant for something else altogether.

I will take a look at the text itself this week.

I'm sorry that you're not happy with my alterations.

In my view, a list of sites should be just that. In your original entry, you had websites called 'newspaper', 'convention center', 'school district' and 'bus service'.

With all due respect, these are not names of websites, but the words used within your entry to link to them.

With regard to the attribute, if you're sure it's okay to use it I will go through the entry and reinstate all the links I moved to , but in each case with the website name as a . That way, they will appear as intended without altering your existing text.

Apologies, but I'm relatively new at this and this is the first entry I'd come across that uses . Previously, I had always used where the name of the website did not appear within the text. No questions were asked of me when I returned such entries, so naturally I assumed I was doing the right thing.

I will also re-instate the links to Microsoft: again I bow to your more experienced judgement!

Hope this will be okay, as I haven't yet had a dissatisfied customer and would hate for you to be the first one!

It's okay, subbing is definitely a learning process. In the future, if you're unsure about whether something is okay or not, the Yahoo!Groups list is a good place to ask other more experienced subs for their thoughts and suggestions.

Mikey,

Apologies if you've been busy with other things, but it's been a week and I would like to get this one back if possible.

Any chance you could look it over during the next couple of days?

Thanks.

Sorry about that, and thanks for the reminder!

A few quick things:

* You seem to have inserted -- these are non-standard GuideML, and are not used in Edited Guide entries, so please remove them. Just using and is sufficient.

* This was probably my mistake, but this sentence uses the word "also" twice, and I'd suggest removing the second one:

" The local community college also offers an entry to higher education for some students, while also providing job retraining for those facing unemployment."

Other than that, looks great!
