I'm making a substitution in the sentence in which you describe how Lineker '...would go on to become the winner of the Golden Boot for the top goalscorer in the 1986 World Cup and … then became a potato crisp advertiser and a TV football pundit.'
I've changed 'then' to 'later' as he didn't begin advertising 
and hosting 'Match of the Day' in 1986.
