Andy,
This is excellent stuff. You are really very good at setting the scene; despite the alien quality of the high tec environment, I found myself being entirely sucked into the scene. I particularly liked the repetition of the "Action required?" which gave me the feeling of a rather pushy super-network but still with some amount of human control.
What a brilliant world view - have you been working ages on your environment? It certainly seems to be very believable.
I look forward to reading chapter 2.
