Archaeology

I'm a trifle disturbed at present. The Old Melbourne Gaol - dating from the 1800's - very crusty in European Australia terms (which, funnily enough is situated in Melbourne)is losing some of its precious history. Land containing the original morgue and cemetery where Australia's infamous bushranger Ned Kelly was interred following his hanging is being destroyed. The RMIT ( a local tertiary institution) has bought the land and is installing a beautiful new car park. Instead of forking out for a complete archaeological investigation before its demise, they offered the paltry sum of $500. This, plus the time restraint, has enabled two archaeologists to dig only a one-metre square test pit resulting in an exciting find of absolutely nothing. The rest of this potentially fascinating site will now be lost forever. Please feel free to ask the RMIT why they allowed this to happen. Any comments...or am I just being silly?
