Hello Sd,
is the civil war/conflict really in its endgame situation now?
I know that both sides issue statements that can't be verified due to lack of access on the ground to independant observers/journalists, and I think it's fair to say that both sides don't shy away from the ' use of propoganda/misinformation'.
What's your feeling? Is it in the final stages?

Hi Lapislazuli,
Analyzing the retaliatory intensity of the LTTE I am quite confident it is the end.
I think the recent air attack was the "last hurrah". The LTTE lacks the imagination and panache of old suggesting a huge depletion in their higher ranks. I won't be surprised if their leader, Prabhakaran, is no more.
However, it'll take a few more months to consolidate and control sporadic incidents.
The economy in SL is in ruin and beyond repair by the present leadership, so, there might be various political games to delay the declaration of the end.
Regards.

Let's hope that after this (hopeful) end to too many years of bloodshed that some thing constructive can appear for the beautiful country you live in.

Good morning from Bahrain!
I have a week break from the the uni.
Let's see how things pan out in the immediate future vis-viz the Tamils.
My friend Thilak's gravely ill and in hospital with two seriously damaged kidneys. He will probably have to have repeated dyalsis treatment. I don't now what the chances of him being able to get a kidney transplant in Sri Lanka, but I hope everything works out.
Here, the summer's knocking on the door: temperatures up to 39C expected today. (It beats moaning about the English rain and grey days though.)
Anyway, I hope you have a good weekend.
PS How's your daughter finding Australia?
Paul

Good morning Paul,
Sorry to hear about your friend's condition. The long waiting list for kidney transplants makes a quick date quite impossible. Was it a sudden diagnosis?
Keshini is getting on fine. She's at the University of Monash, Malaysian Campus. I think she's still not got over the newly found "freedom" factor.
A full weekend is in store. Today, we have District Elections, the ruling party is going to romp to victory. IPL cricket and F1 (Bahrain - your nick of the woods ) will add to the fun.
Wishing you a lovely holiday time - Dhammita

Glad you enjoyed the e's.
Thilak had a small piece of kidney removed for a biopsy yesterday and he has to have a few more tests to determine whether or not he'll have to undergo dyalysis later. I phoned him today and he said he'd had an injection to combat the intense pain he'd been enduring. He sounded a little bit stoned (morphine shot?) Anyhow, I'll be keeping in contact to see how he's getting on.
I'm glad your daughter is being amazed by Oz. We both know what it's like the first time you step foot in a DIFFERENT country. It is amazing.
What is she studying?

Hi Lapislazuli,
Colombo is in jubilant mood !!! The government military has claimed victory - but, as you know, many lives on both sides, are lost.
Hopefully we'll have everlasting peace.
Warm Regards,
DS
