Hello Sd. Ha,

If you look at a few examples of limericks here on h2g2, you'll soon get the hang of of it.
The usual syllable count is this:

lines 1 & 2, 8 syllables,
lines 3 & 4, 5 syllables
line 5, 8 syllables.

We are not a very pedantic bunch and don't mind the occasional minor variation. We just want to have fun!

Hi there,

How absolutely superb!!!! Please make it a point to meet me whenever you are in Colombo next.

My family owned a rubber estate near Padukka.

We frequently visit Hanwella where my friend has a holiday bungalow by the Kelani river.

That's very kind of you Dhammita.
I may travel this summer as I work in KFUPM University, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in the Eastern Province which means I spend my weekends in Bahrain as it's only a one hour drive away over the causeway from Dhahran.
I will convey your tidings to my Sri-Lankan friend Thilak.

Yes I am from Birmingham.

I heard about the blast today. I hope that the end of the ceasefire doesn't mean an escalation of killing. We will just have to wait and see.

Hello Dhammita,

is that the shopping mall that contains the very popular 'House of Fashion'?

It's been very cold (unusually so) here in this part of the gulf.

I finish the present term next Wednesday and then we have a 3 week break in which I'll be off-line.

Ah, Erdington, When I was a boy I
had relatives near there and sometimes our family would go and shop there in the 1960s.

Regards,
Paul

Hello Paul,

Hope you have a wonderful 3 weeks.

I was in Birmingham in the late 70's.

Hey I can't believe you know Colombo so well. Majestic City is the Mall off Galle Road. I am not sure if "House of Fashion" have a store there, but, Odel (another famous clothes shop)has.

The main "House of Fashion" store is on Duplication Road, my mum lives close by.

So, are you planning to go abroad for the holidays?

Dhammita

Hello Dhammita,

I've been to Lanka about 10 times in the last 15 years or so, consequently I've visited Colombo quite a few times too.
When I go to Bahrain I will give you a call from my Bahrain mobile and I will also text you my e-mail address. I don't like putting phone numbers and addresses on a public site for security reasons.

The name 'Odel' rings a bell. The 'House of Fashion' I've visited is a multi storey shop selling mainly clothes and it's very popular and everytime I've been there it's always been very crowded. I've bought a couple of shirts, shorts and sarongs from there.

I'll just stay in Bahrain for the 3 weeks as I rent a flat there and this time of the year the weather can be really nice even though we've just had a bitterly cold couple of weeks with early morning temperatures down to 3 degrees centigrade, add the wind chill factor and it feels like below freezing!smiley - brr Who said climate change and global warming isn't radically affecting the weather!

Paul

Hi there,

You must be very familiar with Sri Lanka - and it's great to know.

I fully agree about security lapses in public sites. However, I am eagerly awaiting telephone call.

Your description of the store is most accurate.

Hello there!

smiley - teasmiley - tea

Well I'm having a cup of tea and getting ready to finalise this term's grades on the computer this morning.
Today's a little warmer than of late, although more rain is forecast in the next couple of days. As you know Dhamitta, I shouldn't really complain about rain as you know what delights the English climate can bringsmiley - laugh and also Lanka is no stranger to rain either.

What did you study at Birmingham?
Did you go into the city much?
Did you travel much outside of Birmingham?

I studied Humanities at Wolverhampton (just northwest of Brum) and then did a postgraduate course at the Institute of Education London University in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) which was a one year full time course.

Anyway, I want to clear this morning's work so it's,

Ta'Ra (remember that?)

Hi there Paul,

Had a late saturday night, watched the Aussie Open and ended up at my club.

When were you in Colombo last?

Ofcourse I remember the old Ta'ra. I love the old comedy shows like Steptoe & Son, Dave Allen, Monty Python, Rising Damp, Porridge etc etc. Are you old enough to remember those shows?

I was at the University of Aston, Gosta Green which in the city. I travelled all over your delightful country while studying geological sciences at Aston. Prior to this I had already completed degree in civil engineering.

My daughter is currently doing the London (Edexcel) A-Levels. She finishes on the 24th, afterwards, we will compensate for a quiet X'mas.

Dhammita

Hello Dhamitta,

I was last in Colombo in June 2006.
I didn't go last year, but I'd like to visit Lanka possibly this year to see my friend's new house.

Yes, I'm old enough to remember those TV programs as I was born in December 1952.

I wish your daughter all the best in her exams as they can be so nerve wracking! I hated doing exams, but they are a necessary inconvenience if you want to further your academic education.

Here we've almost finished processing our students' grades and I'll probably be off over the causeway to Manama (Bahrain) sometime tomorrow morning for a 3 week break. It should be relatively quiet and only take about an hour from here in Dhahran.

Anyway, I'll contact you later one way or another.

Regards,

Hi Paul,

It was really nice to hear from you the other day. Just wanted to let you know that I did not recieve SMS message. Maybe, my mobile phone network does support. This explains your call-back number not being displayed in my phone.

Remember my hotmail address? smiley - smiley

Hope you continue to have a great holiday.
