Vision quest

"I wanted to do all these things," he explained, taking a swig from a bottle of Heiniken he was clutching, "I ended up doing nothing." They had been there, him and one of his buddies, for quite some time now. The dark, back room of the bar was his place for his sort of "therapy", the beer his anaesthesia. He was contemplating the meaning of his life, the universe, and everything. Gazing off into the distance, he vaguely heard his friend's attempt to console him with the usual "It's not as bad as it seems" or some other overused meaningless cliche. It didn't matter to him now; he was lost in deep thought.
Then it came to him.
He had known it before, and how siple it was back then! It was all coming back to him now! How could he have forgotten? But he hadn't really forgotten, it had been there all along. The thought of it was sending shivers down his spine. Of course! The answer....
