Ha ha!!! I've found a researcher from the backwaters where I grew up!!!
I used to live in New Mills until I was 18 when I escaped to the big smoke which is manchester. Thats where I live still. In fallowfield at the mo. My parents live in New Mills still.
Don't suppose you've ever out round there have you?

Aha! Amazing what you find when you start digging around here
'Fraid I don't often head off in the direction of New Mills, but I have been there once or twice. Didn't it have a cyber cafe last time I looked? Seemed a bit incongruous for a little Derbyshire stone cottaged village to keep one of those going. Oh and there's a suspended footpath it's famous for too yes? Didn't it get on a stamp or something.
Am I making all this up?

'Tis all true.
Cyber cafe is still going, although I don't know how! You wouldn't imagine there would be much call. I think these days the computers spend a lot of time gathering dust. They have a lot of local art for sale in there now. Although, that would surely have even less appeal to the natives!! Perhaps its for the tourists?
The bridge is the Millenium bridge in the torrs. Bit of a gimmick but it completes a nice walk around hayfield - new mills - to newtown for a swift jar in the beehive.
You didn't go to new mills school then? I presume Glossop has its own secondary school?
