One of my good friends comes from Ukraine, and she said it's always been in Europe. Which confused me, as they all speak Russain there apparently.

Hello Mina,
Since my visit I've done a little research into the Ukraine. It used to be part of the Russian Empire (the USSR as it was known at that time under commuism) which accounts for everyone speaking Russian, although I think they have their own language as well. It's all very political and complicated.
As to Europe, Russia has always been on the Continent of Europe, but not in the European Union.
It's a facinating subject and if you find anything else out let me know!

Now I see. I think I thought that Russia was a continent. Geography was something I didn't do at school, so forgive me.
Well, she has told me that the government have told everyone in the Ukraine that they have to speak Ukrainian only from now on, so all the schools etc are panicking, as there is no mention of any money to replace books, and some of the people there don't even speak it!
That was a while ago she told me that though, so don't know what happened.
She's always telling me bits and pieces about it, anything else she mentions I'll let you know.
Of course, she's always on about them stealing her money. And complaining about having to bribe everyone to do what should be their jobs.
