Well, I have my fancy new computer (DELL Optiplex GX200it says here). I'm going to have to get the dept programmer tomorrow as these guys (very professional and pleasant as they are at 9pm) don't seem to be able to fix it so that the email comes up immediately when I open up.New keyboard and mouse, which I will try to keep grunge-free, but my games have disappeared. Just when I'd got hearts down so that I won with a score of under 10.I have been used to playing while waiting for an H2G2 thread to load, so it's a good job those guys have their act smartened up or I'd never have the patience.Nice keyboard.I'm now going to find the email and see if I can still print pictures. Back in a bit

I have a Dell GX1, so there's probably some overlap.
What OS are you using?
For most of the windowses, to set your email client to start up automatically:
(1) Open "Explorer" and find the email program executable
(2) Right click and select "Copy" menu
(3) Go to folder C:\WINNT\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
(4) Right click and select "Paste shortcut" option
Thereafter whenever you restart windows, the email application will start automatically.

Thank you. Then I had to get someone to reconfigure for the printer because it dealt only in black and white. I've lost the Black Bottle screen saver, which doesn't really matter. Do I actually need a screen saver or have modern screens got over that? Whatever this version of windoze is makes it much easy for me to find my documents. I'm going home early this evening before I find anything else that's wrong.

Nobody "needs" a screensaver any more.
The screens are much more durable, and it is much less likely that you'll have the same image displayed on them for the length of time needed to "burn in" to the tube.

To find out what OS you are using, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select the "Properties" menu item.

OKAY, I've set up a temporary screensaver. I shall await the arrival of a computing son to change photographs to a more personal one. I've spent the day on someone else's computer in the other building and she has pictures of her children turned into a very stylish one. Going home soon I've been here 11 and a bit hours
Made the mistake of going home from Shoestring on the ferry. This meant (not) going past three bookshops
Pete McCarthy's coming to a pub in Wanchai in a couple of weeks I'm going to try and get tickets. (The pub's called Delaney's but you can always have perfection)

If you need any, I'm more than happy to help with advice and/or instructions on computers. Over here we've just started getting in the new 900 Megahertz speed systems with Windows 2000. I haven't had a chance to play with the 1 Gigahertz speed ones...yet...but I am definitely looking forward to it.

I can relate to your pain in regards to the Windows OS's. They're a pain to say the least. As a tech for more than 10 years, one just has enough time to get to the point of expertise with fixing one version's problems when, BANG! They roll out a new version and you start off from square one knowledge-wise as to it's quirks, oddities and goofs. Ah well, such is life! smiley - bigeyes

At any rate if you need any help or know of anyone, don't hesitate to pop round and give me a hollar, that's what I and the other Guru's are here for.
