Went to the Abbey to see "Translations" which was very good. (Can't remember the playwright - chap who wrote "Dancing at Lughnasa" anyhow).
Bit troubling, of course, because like all Irish literature the bad guys were in the red coats.
Also had a nice meal in Temple bar but could I find a duck for Sunday? - no I could not. It's a wonder Cherry Valley keep going at all - it seems to be nearly impossible to buy their product. Instead I made a butternut squash broth which is very odd altogether. (It seems American squash is much sweeter than the European type.)

Gloria didn't get a look in, I'm afraid. Bit of problem, as when the weather is good I have to go out for countryside walks with herslef, and when it isn't I can't get any work done on the car. However, there is now an online tool supply company so *tada!* I am going to get myself an engine hoist...hope that they deliver, as they're not easily carried.

I was hoping to go to Lansdowne for the friendly this Wednesday night but now I've to fly over to Brussels instead. I shall just have to drag Christina to a Grimsby match instead. Hmm - Crystal Palace at home in the first week of December - that should put someone off football for life

That's the fellow.
Anyhow - the play is set in a hedge school and there's these Red Coats over mapping the whole country and as a result having to anglicise all the place names. So "bHuin na Connlain" becomes Bunny Conlan and "An bothar bui" becomes er, Enfield.
There's the schoolmaster and one of his sons is strongly opposed to the whole thing and his other son is helping the map makers as there's money to be made.

Oddly the website has almost no concrete(cement?) information about what you actually get for your money - but I'd imagine tickets would be part of the deal. Anyway - I've sent off for the free newsletter so hopefully there'll be more info in that....

However, it has been confirmed that I am going to be in Belgium on Wednesday and so won't be able to get to the Ireland match that evening. However, as I said I'd take Christina to a match this now involves me in the complicated ritual called "Touting" to get a ticket to the match after that - being that this latter is a World Cup qualifier and therefore actually matters...ho hum...

Men can be friends of the Abbey and the majority of them seem to be men....but that's not the point...what I'm saying is does this sound like a solution to the constant "what to get for Christmas" problem?

A totally unplanned meeting as the stickwaver is coming to Dublin tomorrow. Slight spanner in the ointment as I shall be in Belgium but will get back in the evening anyhow.
Now given that he's already seen Dublin which of Galway/Cork/Belfast would you reckon is good for a weekend jaunt?

Yup - we might go for a pootle along Sandymount Strand this evening and see if we can see any - last night was too overcast (to the tune of 3 floors of "The Oliver St. John Gogarty" pub ).

Johnny Foxs is up in the mountains so we'd probably be in a good position on Saturday night, weather permitting, of course.
