... where your name comes from? Thought I would drop by and tell you that I have put the Short Guide to Short Words up for Peer Review (on Peta's advice, no less!) http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F48874?thread=164610 I haven't co-credited you, though I should, because I was not sure whether you would want to be be associated with such scurrilous and subversive material. Actually, I know the answer to that, of course. But it is an exccuse to mosey around my friends user spaces, and say 'hi - where'd'ja get that fine name?' All the best, and keep subverting, Subcom. You have to *ask* whether I'd like to be associated with "scurrilous and subversive material???" Of course! Seriously, though, if you think I contributed that much, go ahead and add me.
I used to play guitar & harmonica, sometimes banjo, at open-mike nights under the stage name "Evil Bob Dayjob." After reading a few Umberto Eco books and admiring the Italian names, I tried to write the sound "dayjob" as I imagined it would be written in Italian phonics.
Ironically, I've been working afternoon shift for about 5 years, so haven't had a "day" job in quite a while.
You didn't mean why I use "Subcom?" The leader of the Zapatistas, Subcomandante Marcos. Did you realize that he managed to get a childrens' book published with a grant from the NEA, and they had to "apologize" after they realized who they had given the grant to? I love the fact that a masked guerilla leader would spend time writing children's stories and fiction.
And I used "G. Roberto Deidzoeb" on my front page because "Rob" is my real name (Robert), and the G stands for Guglielmo, an inherently funny sounding but somewhat common Italian name. From Guglielmo Marconi, credited with inventing radio. Also I named my first guitar Guglielmo, in hopes that it would get me on the radio.
Have I gone several steps beyond "more info than I needed to know" yet?
What's the bowl of petunias? Something to drop from space alongside a falling whale, down to the surface of Magrathea?

[You tripped my ramble trigger...]
I really hate work. That's why I always think about dayjobs and associate it with myself. You know those people who say, "If I won a million dollars, I'd keep my job, because I wouldn't know what to do with all that free time." ???? They are indoctrinated fools. I know damn well I could fill my free time with a million things more satisfying than a dayjob could ever give me.
Anyhow, I haven't done much songwriting or performing lately, but I'm still writing fiction, hoping to complete a novel before I'm 30 (9 more months). So that's another way that I think about a "dayjob," only doing data entry crap until I can get the Great American Novel published.
