Well, at the risk of seeming unpatriotic, I'll confess that last night I was watching Spartak Moscow v Leeds in the UEFA Cup and rooting for the Russians!
Leeds really do have a very unpleasant tradition of racist, violent fans and cynical tactics. I'm hoping to celebrate my 40th birthday on March 11 next year by going to watch the Bradford City v Leeds match in the Premiership.
A true and sad story: that will be the first Bradford v Leeds league match since one in the mid-Eighties when, because their team was losing, some Leeds fans set fire to a burger van at the back of one of the stands and then tried to push it through the crowd towards the pitch. Thankfully, no-one was hurt. The game was temporarily stopped, the ground cleared of spectators, and the last eight minutes played out in an empty stadium, with Bradford holding on to the 2-0 lead they'd had at the time of the stoppage. In fairness, I should say that I think the Leeds crowd have cleaned up their act to some extent since then, but there's still plenty of reasons to hate them!
I just hope City beat Middlesbrough tomorrow. That's exactly the kind of game we need to win to stay in the Premiership!
