The biggest problem is that the decisions to put special pupils into mainstream schools are being made my politians after column inches and kudos. They then pass it by accountants, and the people who actually know the kids, the current teachers/carers and the kids themselves, don't get a look in until it's decided that it was too hard.

There is a new project being launched in Norfolk next year when the Edinburgh Road Special NeedsSchool is to be moved to share a site with the existing Sheringham 6th Form/High/Junior/Primary schools. This is to be the first in the country where although the schools will be run as seperate entities, they will share a single site and use of all the facilities. If this works out, and I sincerely hope it does, then this scheme could spread.
