The bakery produce alternative to a shaken up bottle of lemonade. When you bite into it, it goes 'Sprooiiiiinnnggg!!!!!' and explodes everywhere, making a horrible mess of crumbs and strawberry jam, and then begins an impromptu rendition of 'Ride of the Valkyries' by Wagner.

I've also got a Whoopee Fruit Cake and a Jumping Bun.

I'll probably retire as an ACE after a while. It's fun greeting and meeting people, but I've got to the stage where I'm too lazy to write a new personalized message to each newcomer and instead cut and paste my standard one with an extra sentence or two... smiley - sadface
Subbing does look hard work actually. There's loads of grammatical rules we have to comply to... and I can't even spell comply. I don't think I can anyway. I dunno.

I started a list of links to cut'n'paste ages ago, although I usually try for a message...
I could always tell your welcome threads from everyone else's. though, by the subjectsmiley - smiley

Me cuts and pastes the helpful bits... but me always puts in a personal message... though sometimes its hard when the new researcher hardly says anything about themselves... ~grin~... when me thinks back to what my homepage used to look like... ~Greebo hoots with laughter...~

It's a shame that people still do get missed out though... me often goes to researchers homepages from the whose on line list and find that they have never been greeted... and that they have been on line for sometime... Me of course rectifies the situation... but me wishes that there was some way in which you can tell if someone had been greeted or not... hmmm... ~grin~... guess me has better go and lie down now... my brain just overloaded me thinks...

It's one of the things that h2g2 towers are apparently working on. (they said that ages ago though smiley - winkeye)
The problem now is that there's so many ACEs that we tend to greet the same person simultaneously, because you can't tell if somebody's in the process of writing a greeting. Doesn't matter that much I suppose... it's nice to get multiple greetings!

The thing I notice is that some people suddenly get hugely active pages, and welcomes, and hundreds of people/threads appearing on their pages, especially if they reply promptly, on their first day. But if someone logs in, forgets about it, and comes back more than 24 hours later, they have no notice paid them. When my connection can take it I try to load all the unfamilliar names in the user window to see if theres a not-so-new newbie...l sometimes (like today) find someone who's been around and posting to active fora for six weeks and still had no one comment on their page. But the problem isn't that there are so many aces.... lots of people slip through the net.... hopefully not anymore, though.

What I do is expand the user window so I can view the status bar at the bottom of IE. When I move the cursor over a name/link, it shows where the link is to. And so I click on all the ones with high recent numbers... for example today I'm clicking on everybody who's user number is 115***. It works quite well.

Good idea.smiley - smiley but I wish there was some way of knowing without checking... because here its a complete stress to load any windows that I don't absolutely have to... the connection's favourite thing to do currently is die.

smiley - sadface fortunately mine is behaving at the moment. Trouble is I'm running up a bit of a phone bill. I could go up to the university and use their blindingly fast, and free, connection, but there's a bit of a bug when it comes to posting messages and articles... it just hangs around for ages, trying to convince you that it's doing the job, but secretly skiving off somewhere.

There was talk of changing the "new today" to "new this week" in the user pop-up, I was told personally by both Peta and Mark at Christmas, but I guess they are behind with it all. smiley - sadface
It took them 3 months to bring in the new ACEs, afterall.

It's good that they've got so much to do though, in a way. At least H2G2 is seeing *too* much happening instead of not enough!
