Update as of 21:38 gmt 29/1/00 on the entries for 2k.
Demon Drawer 24

I believe that to be a correct summation based on all available data.
I thought I'd done over 30 earlier because of the 4wk thing and forgot that overlapped into the last century.

Ah...you know, I think I made precisely the same mistake.
So you're going to keep track then? Good, I won't have to.

I'm going to do some research and find out who's number 3 as well, that might take me all year though, and I'm not counting staff who are supposed to do things for the front page every day.

Pity we don't have direct access to the database underlying this place. It would be such a simple query to find out which researchers have contributed how many entries.

Ah, but you see, we only do quality entries. Quality AND quantity, that's the ticket.
Up to 20, by the way.

Is that 20 accepted as official guide entries or 20 in total accepted or not?

Elico Posted Feb 1, 2000
OOps my mistake!!! I looked on your home page and you have 86 entries (footnote). Is that current or has it increased? I need to go into overdrive - my 6 attempts look paltry. I think the trick is to go for shorter snappier articles. Mine are usually 1 000 words - more or less.

Demon Drawer Posted Feb 1, 2000
Well Elico we're only counting this years entries, so you may have to disgard some of your six. BTW I am temporarily installing you at #3 in the chart at least until I do a little research.

That was 20 as in total Entries written & submitted this year. I think it's 21 now. Unless I've lost count again. Writing is one of my better skills, counting isn't

I'm not going to do an update every day now for the two of us that will take too long. But I've got another on notebook ready to get added on.

You win. I'm suspending participation in writing Entries.

Well, I'm getting fed up with this! You're clogging up the system!
Also, writing Take5 for the POST I always read the 25 recommended entries on the front page and am getting really fed up as your names pop up at least twice a week! I wish you wrote less reference-style entries. Hmmm, I wonder how categorising will affect all this - should be interesting. Anyway, how's your h2g2 VB apps going?

Researcher 93445 Posted Feb 24, 2000
Don't worry, I won't be clogging the system any longer. I believe what you saw today was just the last two entries that were in the pipe. I have retired from writing H2G2 entries, because I think the editorial process is not acceptable from a professional point of view.
Still poking along on the VB apps. I posted version 0.5.0 of H2G2User to the download site today.

Got both apps again today. What I really want out of Thumber is a way to highlight updated forums since your last running of Thumber (either by comparing text or by indentifying dates and times. A hefty job. I'm currently trying to write a vb disc organiser app - do you have any vb db experience?

Researcher 93445 Posted Feb 24, 2000
Yeah, that's on the list for Thumber. It may eventually develop into an entire off-line reader. I'm loathe to go too far down that path until H2G2 gets their rumoured redesign off the ground, though.
As to VB database experience...um, yes. See, for example, http://www.sybex.com/cgi-bin/rd_bookpg.pl?2556back.html . Or http://www.larkfarm.com/resume.doc .

That's a real shame! I've just been editing one of yours - Jade Plants - and they're well-written and easy to work with... and with all the facts right, too...
Still, I agree that the current editing process lacks a certain something, and entirely respect your decision to stop writing for a while. Hopefully, when the system improves - as I'm sure it must - you'll be persuaded to come back... ?

If the system changes to accomodate my concerns, yes, I'll be back. However, as Mark, Anna, and Peta have all made it clear that they think the system is fine as it stands, I'm not holding my breath for that.
Personally, I'd prefer it if you just rejected any entries you have hanging around from me.
