h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

First off, Hi. This is the first time I have actually talked to you though your name has popped up countless amounts of times beforehand. Thanks for your great h2g2 apps. When I get some time I might customize/improve them though they are fantastic as they are. So nice you included the Latest Five Articles in the User Monitor. I have been using VB for a few years and am also fairly familiar with the Visual Studio/Windows Installer. I'd really wish you got back to using ICQ so I can chat to you about it!
As you may know, I write the Take5 article for the POST. It's amazing how many entries I've reviewed by you. I really think you should cut down, you're clogging up the system!

I'll probably pick up the rest of the content (as opposed to goo -- useful term, that) on the front page for the next round of the user monitor. We'll see, though. Of course should you decide to improve it yourself please do send me back the improvements to incorporate in the next release.

So you're using the new Windows Installer Service then? Cool. One of these days I'll migrate the setup for these apps, though that might result in downloads too large to be practical. I'm working on a book on the Installer, so I really should be using it for my own stuff.

Not much chance of me cutting down -- Demon Drawer and I are both shooting for 250 articles this year. So don't expect the system to get any less clogged for a bit...

As for ICQ -- not much chance of that either. I'm sometimes on IRC or Powwow, but I don't have a lot of spare time for chat, and I simply don't trust the ICQ client -- too many security bugs, including a new and recent buffer overflow.

Well, I might try out some stuff on your programs when I get the time. If you want to know anything about Windows/VS Installer just ask and I'll see if I can answer it. I've had quite a bit of distress and therefore knowledge about it.

Oh, I daresay I know most of the answers...having just about finished writing the book, I'd better Unless you happen to know why MsiVal2 is broken on Windows 2K RC2...I think it's the fact that they didn't update the full SDK for the 1.1 Service, but it would be nice to know for sure.

My Windows Installer setups work on RC1. I haven't got RC2 so don't know if it a specific or general problem. Sorry!

No biggie. Hopefully the release version of the 1.1 SDK will go out before I'm done with galleys.
