How's your Spanish? (I know it's your second home)

I'm writing an Entry on football commentaries, and I have a short transcript of a famous Argentinian description of a Maradona goal, which I need translated into John-Motson-speak English. Would you be able to oblige, or do you know a Spanish speaking football fan who might be able to help?

I think it would be something like:

I want to cry! Holy God! Long live football! Diego! Maradona! Pardon me for crying...
Maradona, in a memorable bullfight, in the play for all time [I think perhaps 'in the eternal play' would be a good translation]...
Cosmic barrel*... which planet do you come from? To leave the English walking so much [I would lose the 'so much', but up to you], so the country is a clenched fist, shouting for Argentina, for Maradona
Argentina 2 England 0
Diegol [I presume this is a kind of pun], Diegol, Diego Armando Maradona...

I can't access translation services from the office (they're blocked), so I'll check those out at the weekend.

One translation I saw said "cosmic kite" for the asterisked phrase, but I'm not sure which type of kite!

Oh, do you remember the Barry Davies version? - he was still miffed by the Hand of God goal 5 minutes earlier, but managed to say through clenched teeth: "You have to say that's magnificent."

You may be right about the Cosmic Kite - FIFA's biography calls him that:

I'm not entirely sure about that. A kite is una cometa, but barrilete literally means 'small barrel'. It may be that barrilete has another meaning, but unfortunately my Spanish isn't good enough to tell you.

There's another translation here, which broadly agrees with mine:

It gives the meaning of the 'play' part as 'with the most beautiful play of all time' which makes sense as well, but it also leaves out the bullfight so I wouldn't trust it too much!

let´s see if I can help a bit. You may need to modify my/our last version. The translation of NYTimes is ok for me, mixing that with Rich´s and mine it gives this:

Maradona with/in a memorable run, with/in the play of all times, cosmic barrel...
which planet did you come from? to leave so many English behind? so the country is a clenched fist, shouting for Argentina! for Maradona!

golazo, I don´t know which word would you use. gol-azo, -azo is a suffix used to intensify. coche(car) cochazo, a very big and/or good car.

Corrida: is the action of correr, run. Not much used, we prefer carrera. But, who knows? maybe the journalist used corrida in the sense of bullfighting to give a bit more of epic. (Corrida has also a strong slang meaning related to sex, so, be careful, Rich when you use it in Spain)
cosmic barrel. Maradona is a short strong man, barrilete is used as a metaphor. He physicly looks like a barrilete.

I´m glad I helped.

YOu still can add something: the grafic accent. It will give "elegance", there must be another word instead of elegance, but maybe you know what I mean. It´s a detail.

That's marvellous, Mar! It took me a while, and a bit of help from a dictionary, to work it out, but I'm pleased I got so close. I should have worked out the -azo, though.

Might be worth starting with the 'genio, genio, genio' <genius) that precludes the ball going in. It's a fantastic bit of commentary

I love that journalist, thanks Rich for linking it. So epic that it always makes me laugh. It´s a kind of Scarlata O´hara full of soccer passion, very funny.

And in the text appears "recorrida" so, definitely is not bullfight. recorrida from recorrer, a synonym of correr.
